Hey can anyone help me i just did the head gasket in my EFI vk and i was told that the pistons had
melted to the block and teared a gouge out of the block but i cannot feel anything like that so i think i was lied to and i was told that the block had been bored out as much as it can go but i have another black 202 motor that has carbby, wat i want to know is wat to do about the EFI engine can it be fixed or can i use the head and block off the other motor to re-build the EFI motor or is it possible to change a carb motor to a EFI and wat has to be done for it to work
Anyone with any info to help me out would be a great help Thanks.
personally i prefer carb'd engines. buts thats what it all comes down to;
personal preference.
First things first, is the head off the motor now? Check for bore damage etc and turn the motor over by hand to feel if it gets sticky at all. Check the bores for damage and the pistons for damage as well, if you can't find any damage i would just get the head pressure checked / cleaned and skimmed, clean the block deck to it is spotless and smooth and put a new head gasket on, Make sure you replace the oil etc in the motor as it may have water in it. Don't use anything expensive as your going to have to replace that oil again anyway. Also use water in the cooling system and flush it afew times, dont put coolant back in until you are 100% that its ok. Oh and make sure you dont put cold water into a hot block / radiator as it could damage something.
I'd go the injection over the Carby.
Anything else let me know
Cheers Josh
yeah the head is off and i have checked for any marks or wear spots and i can not feel any and i could move the fan to move the pistons when i first did it but it has been sitting covered up for awhile now about a year now and is a bit hard now but i dont no if it has warpped or not but i have been told it has to be bored out but it carnt be bored out anymore as the walls will be to thin and how much do you think all of wat you have suggested for me to do will cost?
PS. i have attached a couple of photos of the engine if it is any help
Thanks
are the bores smooth and do they have a lip on them? top part of the bore may be slightly smaller than the smooth bore itself.
Cheers Josh
Also if you look on the top of the pistons you should see something stamped into them you may need to chip off some carbon
you should see STD for standard bore, 010,020,030,040,050,060 for how oversize the bore is, it could be in metric so 1.5 i think is 60thou this will tell you if the block can be bored again.
worse case you could sleeve it, the carbie blocks are nearly identical to an EFI blcok the heads are different but can be used. you need to drill 1 hold in a carbie block to be used in an EFI.
cheers

Loads of VB-VK information, All you need to know about EFI 5L Conversions Ultimate EFI 5L Conversion resource "
Wanted B Cast Heads PM for details
The bores are smooth but i dont no bout the lip and so it isnt hard to change a carb engine to a EFI i was told that the heads could be swaped over and that was it
Easiest way is to compare the holes in both blocks and heads. The lip is the part at the top of the bore. You should be able to feel if there is a lip on it as it will be slightly smaller than the bore. I wouldn't bother sleeving it, i'd just put another motor in.
