Just bought a VH SLE and have a few issues. Fuel guage does not work and wondering if there is a common issue or easy fix? dash lights are dull and so are headlights is this just a bulb replacement or possible earthing issue? And a T5 manual from a VN has been put in, would a custom speedo cable need to be made or can the VN cable be used as the speedo does not work
Im thinking custom, as Vn use a speedo sensor. though i did read on here somewhere of someone using a falcon one. or something along the lines of a falcon modified one. What engine does it have? Fuel gauge could be a few things, sensor in the tank could be stuffed, gauge could be stuffed, wiring could be broken but if its rubbed through somewhere and if it earths youll have a full gauge reading. Dash could have dust all over the bulbs but most likely they are just dull from factory, both my VK's are dull, ones a bit better than the other though. Is the glass on the headlights nice and clear and the inside still coated in all its reflective stuff? pull out a bulb and check it, wipe off the glass with a tissue to remove fingerprints and put it in without touching the glass again cause it could create a hotspot if your unlucky.
It has VH 308 in it. Will have to ask around a bit more about the speedo cable. Will play around with the other issues a little more and see if i can sort them out. Thanks mate
I used to run a speedo cable in my last VH with the carby V8.
I just bought a cable to suit from Dellow. But plenty of places make them - Castlemaine Rod Shop sells them too. They aren't overly expensive
fuel gauge, probably a wiring or sender unit problem. Check the wire is still attached at the fuel tank sender unit.
Dull dash lights..... I'm afraid is standard on VB-VK. I replaced mine with super bright SMD LED's http://www.ledshoponline.com/automot...board_bulb.htm
dull headlights - I had the same problem. Crap ceramic fuses usually make bad contact & melt the plastic in the fusebox. I bypassed the ceramic fuse, wired in a blade type fuse instead. Good headlights now. I'm also considering wiring in a headlight relay - something Holden neglected to do on the VB-VH
