I have got play in rear LH wheel, feels just like a wheel bearing. when driving with no load on vehicle i can hear a knocking sound coming from rear LH side. also when you spin the wheel backwards the play goes.
Work that has been done to try and slove this issue is
-nothlan bushes right threw rear end
-wheel bearings replaced with the thicker seals
-spacers have been tried behind wheel bearings also
-axles swaped from side to side, play stays on the left side.
-axles checked in lath for straightness
-new diff head ( rather a recond diff apparantly)
- new diff houseing
i am at a complete loss please help
do u have an adjustable panhard rod? or maybe the mount is weak or maybe ur dreaming
Can you physically feel the play when you jack it up off the ground with no wheel on?
I would check shock absorbers & backing plates for the rear brakes that bolt ontot he diff housing. Else as Sam5l said Panhard rod if you jack it up and can see the modement then it should ben easy to solve.
I had a diff go in my VK once which the bearings for the axels used to float in the housing and give a knocking noise around corners, I ended up swapping the complete diff over.

Is it a knocking or creaking sound? Can you physically fell anyplay anywhere when its free. (in the air)
Had the spots weld creaking in the left hand side once but the car was off the road before attempting to fix it. Sounded like a creaking sound coming from the door but it was when going round corners but never under load.
Thank you all for your help. it turned out the diff head i had fitted, had the same problem. replaced with new diff and issue gone.
Nice. Hope your not out of pocket for it?
