So i have a Vk Calais, and it had a red 202 in it for some reason, dont ask? Anyway i got hold of a black motor 202 carby, and me and some mates installed it a few days ago. Now the problem is the motor is not starting, its turning over just getting no spark. We have swapped dizzys/coils/leads and still it will not start. Now yesterday i was looking in the engine bay, and there are 2 black plugs that arent attached to anything. One is coming from it looks to be the transmission and it ends right on the firewall, and the other is coming from the back of the block. Im not sure what these plugs are for and would like some advice from people with more experience than myself. Please help, I just want my car to go already, thanks.
They would be for EST and it would be why your engine will not start. I think there are magnets on your flywheel and a sensor on the bellhousing so it knows when to fire. This system is a real pain and most people convert to an electronic dizzy off a blue motor.
mate, if its a stock HEI dizzy then alls you need is ignition + to the coil, neg and pos from the coil to the dizzy and it should fire. if its as tree cutter says and its EST then .. well, yeah. bags more issues
If you still have the original loom for EST there will be two wires for the throttle sensor, 1 for the Anti-dieseling solenoid and 1 for the choke. The two little black ones are probably the Throttle sensor switch. All up around the carby/ back of head area. oh and one for the EST Diagnostic mode, thinks its green from memory? What Carby has it got? And as Ari said, only need power to the coil with negative and positive sides of the dizzy connected to run- and fuel of course. Check for spark then make sure its got fuel as the pump wont prime on an empty tank.
just noticed it is a calais, should have been EFI in that case.
