VC commodore wont start

Hey,

Recently my dad tried to fix the timing of the car, which made the car not start at all, we got a new resister in it i think thats what its called, and when he tried to start i see a blue spark next to the motor and the bottom he says its shortning out and he needs to know how to fix it cause he has no idea whats wrong with it...

VC would not usually have a resistor, better throw up a picture so we know what u talking about.
