hi everyone i am new to this site so just learning.
i have a 1980 vb with a 308 in it worked to about 314, a stally, ford 9 inch diff with 3.55 gears, currently fitting a b and m quiksilver shifter in the original console, and getting the turbo 400 transmission in it fully manualised and a stage three shift kit.
i am considering changing the diff from lsd to a mini spool or a full spool, would just like to know wat every1 recommends. what the pricing would be like? and if it is posible for me to fit either myself, if not were i could get them fitted.
thank you
Go for a Kazz LSD centre or a Detroit Truetrac if your serious about an LSD. I have a Kazz waiting to go into my commodore when I can get the time to strip down my diff and put it in.
But it also comes back to what driving are you actually doing?

its better to get someone who knows wat they are doin with diffs and who have the right tools..
i dont know exactly wat the difference between the mini and full spools, but the mini spools are fine and are said to be "unbrakable"..and at only $90 u cant go wrong

thanx for the replys
lookin at going from lsd to spool for constant reliable fun
were would i be able to get a spool done? by someone that is good at what they do and not to expensive but then again cant put a price on quality
lol, "constant relaible fun" i dont understand... whats wrong with the 9 inch LSD? lsd is much better than spool, and i can guarantee no oversized 308 is gonna break a 9 inch (unless your being a twat with it)
if anything, id be heading towards a smaller/lighter diff.
not to sure but i think my diff needs to be tightened. i would prefer to just fit a spool for the cost then get diff tightened which i asume will cost more over time due to havin to do it a few times over the space i own the car.
lol i seen a 9 inch destroyed! its on you tube somewheres. they tried a few different engines and it took the ls7 to break it! lol when it did it shatered it!
i am still unsure wat im going to do. it depends on how much to get mine rebuilt, and how much it would be for a different centre. if i want to get rid of it ill let you know![]()
ford diffs are cheap as hell!!! much cheaper than a salisbury or banjo and on par with borg warner.
were would you recomend gettin mine rebuilt?
ummm, well there is a place in dandenong called "central diffs" who my mate swears by. i have never used a diff center TBH.
ok thanx mate ill give them a call
cheap - minispool, fits inside your current open center in place of the spider gears. locks both rear wheels permanently. fun but ilegal for street use
not so cheap, full spool, this replaces your current center in the diff. needs your crown wheel fitted and then setup. as above but stronger
not not so cheap. LSD center is put in instead of your current open center.

alright wat i thought but wasnt sure
and to "vkberlina" wat sort of kazz or detroit truetrec centre will fit my diff. and wat sort off prices would i be lookin at.
i thought a truetrac was a chevy diff? which would mean changine the housing. if you already have a 9 inch its a bit of a waste
We have built a detroit trutrac into a FFFF nah cant type it 9" housing. I was given a Kazz centre as part of a payment for a job and dont know how much they retail for but they wouldnt be cheap

hey all well i decided against a mini or full spool due to living up in the hill were it is mostly wet wheather.
i did a bit of research and ringing around and i decided to go a detroit truetrac over a detroit locker.
due to the locker also being very dangerous up hear it is very similar to a spool.
and the detroit truetrac and lockers do fit into a ford nine inch diff,
they are similar to an lsd but do not require maintenance because of the little number of parts and no clutch plates to wear it also doesnt need tightening or rebuilding.
i do need to and am replacing the axles to some 31 spline moser forged axles.
so thanx all for ur input and info
good choice and harrop have a sale atm on them for 700 to fit a 9".
do you know were i can get the prices from harrop they dont have prices on website
thank 180sc got the 9" detroit truetrac from harrop, it was a great price couldnt resist lol. now just got to save up for the custom moser axles and the shortening of my diff. thanx all for the feed back and info.
