Ok, so a few weeks ago my car was turning over but not firing so I checked everything and it turned out to be the ignition fuse, so I replaced it, fired (didn't idle 'cause the carby wasn't tuned and vacuum leaks everywhere :/ )
Fixed all that, then about a weekend ago my dad was over and I started it and she fired, and idled but quickly had to shut it off due to fuel pissing out everywhere.
Fixed THAT problem, and went to start her AGAIN last week and no fire, checked the fuse box and ANOTHER ignition fuse had blown, I thaught okay wierd and put another one in, and straight away the next one blew, and the one after that 20 seconds later (Mum said it made a pretty decent blue spark too!)
so I got curious and tried a 20 amp fuse and that blew too! after the loss of one more fuse after that, I am stuck.
Anyone ever had this problem or any ideas on fixing it? I was all exited about finishing the VK this weekend, I still can if I get her running on my visit on Thursday!
thanks guys!
u might have put a wire back on the wrong position when u had things apart.
Didn't really pull anything appart though? I did get rid of all the old wiring for the LPG that used to be in it but none of it was connected to anything. Any ideas where to start or how to trace whats wrong with it?
so this fuse blows when? as ignition is switched on, as you start engine or anytime its running? if it goes when switched on or cranked, start disconnecting things like coil and go from there.
Yeah it goes the moment I turn the key. So just disconect the coil and see if it blows? and keep disconnecting things on that same circuit untill I find whats blowing it?
They're all in parallel so wont break the circuit by disconnecting one thing?? (I know I sound stupid, but I'm new and still learning haa) What else is on the same circuit?
Thanks

you wont break nothin disconnecting anything, if disconnecting coil no good, there ain that much else that i can think of off top of my head to stuff up, just follow wiring make sure its not jammed anywhere touching earth. been a while since i worked on a VK, used to know them back to front. you could always pull the plug from the EST module and see if fuse still blows.
Well I have a new dizzy to put in from a blue motor, I want to change it over, is there a good chance this will solve my problem? I just didn't want to change it with problems already there and then not know if there's any new problems so I could tackle one thing at a time (Not making much sence) Know what I mean? lol
What can I disconect when I change it over? I know the ECU can come out or be unplugged
Check the connection that supplies power to the automatic choke. It's a terminal behind the carb and hidden from view.
I was blowing ignition fuses as I came off idle, as the bare terminal was earthing on the accelerator linkage when putting my foot down.
It's an easy one to miss when you rush to fire up.
ah yeah, forgot about that one.
Which fuse you blowing the one the supplys the EST?
look at the wiring that goes to the throttle switch on the carby?
throw the est as far as you can, the coil + comes from a different fuse pretty shaw the est is on its own fuse.
the LPG would have had an ignition + wire to the fuel and gas stop solenoids. if you checked the terminal coldfishface suggested and its all good, you will need to trace back the two wires for the solenoids. you might find that the switch inside the cabin that use to change from gas to fuel is the culprit.
The switch in the cabin and the shutoff solenoids for the petrol/gas were all removed. the only remains of the LPG stuff is the accessories is being used for the radio, I don't see that as the problem?
The automatic choke cable stuff could very well be the problem as I have no choke on the holley at the moment, I'll look into it first thing when I see it next! The fuse thats blowing is the blue 15 amp one, I can't remember which number but pretty sure the fuse box covor just called it the ignition. Keep your ideas coming though! Thanks!
If the power (+) for the choke heater hits an earth (-), it will blow the 15 amp fuse labeled " Ignition ".
Believe me, I found out the long and frustrating way !
If it is swingin' in the breeze, as mine was, it may only earth out when the throttle linkage moves and grounds/touches it.
Yep that was the problem!
Got her running, then did a compression test (On only 3 cylinders because the douche at bursons gave me an oil pressure guage instead of a screw-in type compression guage) and is now thinking that the piston rings are shot![]()
