Post exhaust taps on fuel tank :S

on the VH its had a new exhaust in the last 5 years at some point, i have checked the rubbers and theyre still fine, except that it sits a little bit close to the fuel tank and taps very loudly because of the rough starfire engine when cold once it warms up its fine because the motor runs smoother but rough when cold

any ideas on how to stop it tapping?

i used a stack of left over cork gaskets, the bits that you rip off from around your new ones, glued them together with RTV then glued them to the boot floor, but in your case the fuel tank, i never heard a noise from it again.

I always ensure my victims are unconscious before placing them in the boot....

i used to use cardboard. like not weetbix box cardboard but like the thicker stuff. used it behind the numberplate to stop that horrid vibration when ya crank up the bass. id say cork gasket would be butter for under the car because it doesnt soak up water lol!

How about fixing the problem instead of hiding it?

What you will need to do is loosen the clamp that holds the rear muffler to the front muffler just behind the diff, rotate the rear muffler slightly clockwise looking at it from the rear, this will pull the exhaust away from the tank a bit. You may have to bend the rear exhaust hanger over towards the tank a touch to pull the rear away from the tank as well.

If that doesn't work, you will have to remove the rear muffler and pull the front section over to the passenger side of the car, then refit the rear muffler. Removing the muffler gives you more clearance and you can pull it over more. You can do it by just removing all the rubbers as well, but the rear muffler doesn't have much room between the tank and the spare wheel well.

    i must admit to something:

    4 cylinder starfire
    soon to be a 202
    bonnet scoop +
rear spoiler, both painted with aerosol cans

kinda threw me off the whole "lets do it properley" trail, so for that i apologise *bows*

i am assuming you will be upgrading your exhaust when you go 202 right? that 4 pot would have to have a pee-shooter exhaust from stock

yeah i reckon, doesnt look that small but would have to look, will save up the money so i can do as much as i can at once, so i can go straight from starfire to 202 with proper vh brakes, diff and suspension (probably find a donor car)

oneday will put something bigger in it (ls1 or something hopefully, thats on the wishlist)
