I've just bought a HDT 5 speed shifter knob for my VK with T5 manual. Now obviously the original T5 gear knob just screws into the shifter but for some reason, the HDT item doesn't screw in. It just..gets pushed in?
Does anyone know anything about this?
I don't want to be driving along and then all of a sudden pop..knob slides off.
I'd be using a bit of contact adhesive (that yellow trim glue) inside the gearknob. Should ensure the gearknob doesn't come off, but at the same time if you need to remove it, it's not that difficult to remove. And the glue comes off fairly easily
Thanks for the suggestion.
seems funny it isnt threaded, mine is, its definitely a T5 in your car?
Ok to actually cut a thread into the gearknob do as follows
Unbolt the shifter outof the car
Mask up the knob incase you get glue on it
smear a very light film of vasalene or mobil waxrex over the thread of the shifter, warm it in your fingers so it goes soluable
mix a 2 part epoxy and pour it intot he hole in the shifter, dont over fill remember you will be pushing the shifter in
now insert the shifter and make sure you line the gearknob up on the shifter as it will be in the tightened postition and allow to completely cure.
once fully cured unscrew the gear knob and refit to your car.
