Hey Guys,
About two months ago I picked up a VK, 4-Speed manual with no rust, and 81,000 on the clock for $500 bucks! Quite a bargain IMHO.
Now, I want to convert this VK into my track-day car, as my VL is a little too nice to be thrashing around a track.
I'm planning on stripping the interior, and removing all unnecessary weight, for more speed,
It's a Carby 202 Black, I'm on a very tight budget, and I really don't want to put EFI on it.
Any tips on increasing horses, on my budget of about 200 or 300 dollars?
Cheers, - Premium
$50 - 2nd hand extractors.
$50 - ADM Webber Carby
$50 - Adapter Plate for above Carby
$50 - Ebay HEI Dizzy
$100 - Shave the head, clean up the ports yourself
25 years ago the Black motor did about 87hp. Don't expect miracles on a low budget.
haha not to be a pain but ive got an idea they had 87kw of power which is about 115 hp, could be wrong?
- i just put on a reco'd varajet and got about 20% of power back, i was lucky and got mine free, but i think you can get them for $150 on ebay, but like codfishface said go the weber if you can get one cheaper than varajet
- when you strip it sell the bits for more money for the motor? selling individual part you could make another 300-400 bucks on a good day

Yeah, my bad.
87kw.
haha sorry just thought it was bit strange cos my starfire has 80hp, 87hp for a 6 cyl didnt sounds right![]()
two bottles of octane booster, and bet the rest on black at the roulette wheel at the casino
Second hand extractors, remove aircon (if any), strip the shit out of it, remove anything that isn't illegal to remove. If your lucky you might be able to get away with removing the Cat converter.
otehr than that, I'd go with a 32/36 weber carby from an XD/XE falcon, Probably pick one up from the wreckers for cheap. Second hand extractors (I found a nice set of genie extractors in an old VK 202 Black Carby at teh wreckers today actually, the guy wanted $100 for the complete exhaust system with muffler etc.) get rid of the EST, Shave the head as well, if you can do the work yourself.. High quality oil and premium fuel. If you're willing to go through (constant) trouble but get decent performance, you can get a holley 350.
also, I did this with my car and it gave me a few extra KW, if you keep the varajet, you can remove the filter cover, basically remove the entire filter and cut off the top of it where its screwed in and just put that back on, and mount your sensors on that, give it some more breathing room, and you can do it with a hacksaw and about an hour of your time.
I've seen second hand tripple SU's go for as low as $150, just need a bit of a tune and some cleaning, and maybe 2 more carby's if they dont already have them.
Personally, I'd go second hand extractors, a weber 32/36 from the wreckers, hack and slash the filter cover, new HEI Dizzy (or even one from the wreckers will do, as long as it's HEI), weight removal or reduction, i've seen second hand lightweight bucket seats go for as low as $70 a pop.
If you can strech your budget to $500 and is somewhat mechanically mined, you may (if your extremely lucky) get away with a V6 conversion, all you need is a mate with an old (preferable wrecked, but not front end damage) VN-VS who's willing to let you have it for a carton of beer, some tools or someone elses tools, a few days and some mates who are willing to help. There is a plethora of tutorials out there.
Don't worry, I had the same problem. In my honest opinion, save your cash, save up a bit, till you have about a grand to a grand and a half and get some real performance parts.
all the above mods are great on a budget but id stretch the budget a little to put some steel timing gears in as theyre probably the first thing youll break .
81,000 kms and no rust sounds like a one owner gem. Clean it right up, polish and detail it then sell it for say 2,500 or more, make a tidy profit then buy a banger for $500 and use the profit from the sale to do some serious work....
I have to admit I love the 202 in my VK but I've been down the road of trying to make it go faster, I spent around 2 grand on the motor and my stock VX S pac manual can still take it any day, my advice if you want more power either as someone already stated add another two cylinders or convert it with a v6 ecotec. Wack a cam in the ecotec, some extractors, air induction kit and get the computer redone and your laughing, heaps more punch then the 202. But each to there own as I said I love the 202 but for me now its more the sentimental value of it rather then the power.
Ok - you need to fit the i6 motor into a light weight chassis like one of these:
and then fit one of these to your VK chassis:

+ a few other minor mods and you should win pretty much everything at the local club track day
Reaper
Hahaha that's gold!
check this one out
VPW Performance Mailorder
you could walk away with it and all bolt ons for a cool cool 30 grand. not bad for 1000HP
F*** me, that sounds / looks awesome (and I don't use that word very often..).
IF only I had a spare $30k laying around. Somehow I don't think the missus would agree to such a purchase. Maybe I should trade her in.....
Aaahaaa ROFL!!! At least the 1000hp doesn't talk back!
(Are we off topic now....??)
