I totally agree with the above, It cost me just to do the boot lid
13 x 3.5 cans = $32.50
2x cans of non gloss clear coat @ $18 each $ 36
2x Cans of Gloss (I could have just bought two cans and get it over and done with) $~18 (again $36)
+ 4x sheets of sand paper @ $1.12ea = $4.48
I had to buy other stuff like special metal filler & grease remover, sanding block etc.....
So just as is: $108.98
& I still need another 1 or 2 cans of the 3M clear coat to get it perfect.
It is only very slightly different to the rest of the car, hardly noticeable, If i were to do the two rear fenders you wouldn't be able to notice the difference.
I've attached images below, took me 3 days to complete as is, still needs a final sanding and a very good polish after the two other clear coats i need to do.

pretty nice job with the spray cans guys! im very surprised with the results ya got! im gonna hafta do my whole car soon cos she is very fadded. worst is on the bonnet where its faded so much its gone down to bare metal and rusted in spots. il do it with a mates compressor, but what other bits do i need? obviously spray gun. and which is better the gravity fed with the paint over top the gun or the other with the paint under the gun? best grade wet and dry to use? any other tips or techniques would be great! i have great technique with cans from doing bumpers and stuff but never used the compressor set up!
sorry to jack the thread lol
ok cheers il be sure to get one of those!
supercheap aut had a set of three guns for 80 bucks, i used it on my engine bay and couldnt be happier. the kit includes 1.7mm gun, 1.4mm and a 1.0mm that you will never use.
painting from a can is fail. your finger will start to hurt after doing one door, then you will lose concentration after one door, get runs, peel everything. there is simply NO POINT in using cans to do more than one panel. 2 liters of basic white 2 pack will set you back 60-80 dollars and depending on how much thinners you add will end up doing the majority of a car in nice thick paint that you can safely rub back later.
in case you hadnt seen my impala thread, here is the pic (i love showing it off)
try getting this kinda sheen out of a aerosol can:
not done in a booth, done in my workshop on a cold winter morning.
lol ya show off! hey ari you seem to have the same sorta tase in cars as i so what do ya think is a good green for my vk?
i didnt choose the green, sorry, chevy did. its the factory 8692 seamist jade. personally i like cobalt blue on VK's. i think the shape really suits that colour. but yeah, dunno, colours are a really individual choice.
kermit green all the way![]()
