Vk engine runs, then dies in reverse HELP :|

Hey guys,
FINALLY got the VK going after all this time, she idled (Sometimes needing a little help so she doesn't bog out) Backed it out into the driveway yesterday to degrease the engine bay, and drover it back in fine.
Started her today, needed help to stay running (Didn't like the revs dropping below 1000) so I wanted to drive it up the road and back to bed the new brakes in before I get it towed to get the exhaust on it and drive it back to my house. Lucky I did!
She backed into the driveway (Had to keep the revs up with one foot and brake with the other) then went to go back just a bit further and she died. Started her again, put her in drive, Went forward very nicely, so tried again, reversed rough, then died in the driveway. I tried this once more and same result.
Existing problems that I know of are blown head gasket (Need to get it home to fix it) and it's leaking trans fluid (Checked cooler lines, put a new gasket on the pan, still leaking ) And the carby does need tuning but didn't see the point in fine tuning it with no exhaust and a blown head gasket.
Any information yous want let me know, please help me out! I get my license tomorrow and every time I think its almost finished something like this happens!

Fix the head gasket before you do anything else. you will have to unbolt the exhaust again to change the head gasket so why do the exhaust twice. Your carby problem might be fixed by replacing the head gasket also if it has blown between two cylinders.
