as the titles states im also looking at retrimming my door cards.. as well as painting my dash and other plastics black. has anyone had any experience and have any pointers or ideas with trimming door cards?
cheers in advance
Great finally a real question we havent coveredYes I did my door cards
I made new cards up, you can buyt he plastic clips from rare spares
removel the metal tops off an old set of trims and them fitted them to the new cards, used 3m spray contact adhiesive to glue the material on once it was sewn up. You can buynew felts for the glas runner ont he door trim as well Scott Auto rubber via Clark Rubber.
Door trims have been sitting in the car for nearly a year and cant get time to finally fit them to the carI dont think I even have photos of them
cheers

i was thinking of trimming them in a black cotton material. with foam behind. Glueing the foam on and folding the cotton material over the edges and stapling them on the inside of the door card. how ever im a diesel fitter not a sewing machine so im presuming its not as easy as it sounds...
Be careful with the foam thickness. Often i've seen thick foam put on with vinyl, its to thick for the window winders or interior door handles.

yes this i thought of also. i was looking at going 10mm thick. which can be compressed easily. I have lectric windows so wont need to worry about any moving parts on the doors. as long as i can get the armrest and lock on. there is also the issue of the speakers in the door. Maybe use the vr/vs door pockets/speaker covers.
door trims: no.. but spraying plastic: yes
make sure you use loads of plasti-prime. it not entirely sure how it works but is has a flexible base and really helps the paint stick. spray acrylic on the dash and watch it flake off over summertime. prep it properley and spray in 2 pac and itll be good for years.
thats all im good for.
how many coats of primmer would you do? as well as paint? would clear coating give too much of a shine?
back on the door trimming. Is there anywhere i can buy new door cards (un trimmed)?
if your fabric is very thin or stretchy it is advisable to glue it onto a calico type material or even vynal so it sits flatter and smoother and will wear better as well.

yeah talking about it with a mate today im thinkin of going with black vynal now. simply because its easier to clean and doesnt stain as easy
i dont see why people think black interiors are so much hotter then lighter colours. through personnal experience of have black as well as white leather interior cars and havent noticed a difference between temperatures in relation to interior colours. at the end of the day, if you leave your car outside on a hot sunny summers day it will get hot no matter what colour it is.
black absorbs heat, white reflects heat. im in and out of cars all day that are parked in the sun during summertime and i can safely say cream/beige/tan/white interiors are always a LOT cooler than black ones.
plus black leather seats are like sitting on hot coals. anyways off topic, sorry.
if your doing your door trims id say use 5mm foam possibly closed cell, and then glue the material on. if your going black it looks a bit tacky so id go for a charcol, still black ish but looks way better. and make sure its UV treated. nothing worse than doing all that work just for it to fade
