Default Shortened pipes legal in nsw?

I've been considering building up on my 202 vk and was wondering if shortened pipes (say ending before the rear axle) is illegal for nsw roads

As far as i know it is illegal but, i think you are able to stick the exhaust out just in front of the passengers side wheel but not drivers.

Has to be a minimum of 8 or 12inches from the last opening window on the vehicle.

That said its only illegal if you're caught. BUT, its a 202 so it wont sound any good.

Here's a pic of how I had the exhaust on my old VB 253. Had a Berklee sports box put on to replace the old box which had a massive hole in it. And as I didn't like the sound (sounded heaps better with the old holey box) me mate at the shop said it would be quieter again with the tailpipe on (I had a listen b4 he put the tailpipe on), so he chucked a dump pipe on the berkleee box, and tacked the tailpipe on the exhaust clamp so it still looked like there was a tailpipe.

The vehicle and exhaust system must comply with all provisions of Australian Design Rules in order that it remain roadworthy. Any (ANY) modification(s), unless approved to ADR standards, that change/alter/modify any aspect of your vehicle from the ADR standards/requirements that existed at the time of manufacture of your vehicle are ILLEGAL.

Oh gee, that was so insightful...

Nevermind that you can modify something and still comply with the ADR's.

well, the last time i looked at the regs for vic (about 15 years ago, lol) it was trageted around two things:
    1. DBA level
    2. angle of departure

it was ages since i looked but it was something like 50 degrees varied from angle of the exhaust tip ad it was no longer RWC. dunno if nsw are in line with vic or vice versa, but the rule of thumb was that the tip had to exit the rear of the vehicle in the same position and the same distance as stock.

so that means even putting dumpers on isnt legal. let alone chopping at the diff.

i have another question as this problem has just occured this morning. my digi dash has decided to not be on when the engine has started or i turned the key to accessories, as well as my power windows but after i had given the engine a small blip of the throttle they both will come on and work. if i put it into reverse i lose the dash but if its in drive it works... i should make a seperate post but i didnt want to double post

thats low battery. mine used to do the same when i fitted thermo fans. well, not the digi dash, cos' i dont have one, but the radio used to shut off.
assuming its the same problem: the alternator hasnt charged enough power to run all the electrical devices, so with your foot on the brake and it in reverse, you are lighting up 4 tail light globes and 2 reverse globes, plus maybe a radio and heater. the things that need most power will die, (mine was the radio)

it happened at traffic lights too. foot on the brake and indicating. alt wasnt charging enough at low RPM to power everything so the radio would shut off.

dump it at the diff and just put some fake tips at the end to loose the attention of the boys in blue.
altough, that could be easier said then done.

    Hey.

If you got Q's, the best thing to do is make a thread about it in this section (VB-VK) and usually youll get a quick response..
