Default VN Fuel Door on The VK

    Hey

Just wondering how hard it is to put a VN fuel door on the VK

Im looking at one right now, it has a cable release, will that reach?

Also, does any VN-VS (The only side fuel doors that'll fit ive heard) have an electric popper, or can one be made/bought?

    Cheers

    VKC

The fuel door will fit straight into the original holes in the car, all you will need to do is drill a hole for the catch. You'll need to drill a smaller hole than you need and then file it square to suit the threaded latch.

To my knowledge there were no VN-VS fuel doors that were electrically opened, I remember reading a thread a while ago where someone did it though. From memory they used a boot lock solenoid and made up a bracket to mount it next to the latch mechanism, it should be easy enough if you're keen.

If you don't do the electric setup, the cable from a VN-VS is long enough and I used a VN lever as it is a single lever, VR's and VS's have a twin lever arrangement with the other lever being a boot release.

To mount the lever you'll have to take out the drivers seat including the base (only 4 bolts) and drill a pretty large hole in the inner sill for the lever's spring, as well as another 2 small screw holes. Hook up the cable to the mounted door mechanism and run the cable along the sill so that you get the handle in the correct position. The mounting holes in the sill end up not too far forward of the B pillar.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

The point is to secure your fuel cap without requiring yet another key, and some people like the smoother appearance also.

I found there was no need to square off the latch hole (its a bit hard to get at), just drill a suitable sized hole and it works nicely.

It was mainly the cleaner look I was after.

The pin will hold in a round hole and yes its hard to get into but the reason I flattened out the sides of the hole to match the threaded pin was to stop the latch mechanism from twisting.

Whatever works for you I guess.

What ill do is drill the hole, then play it by ear, if it needs filing ill do it
