i have not taken that panel off specifically, but i can pretty much safely say itll be a prick of a job. the window will have to come out, wire wheel all the piant and sealer off the edges so you can find all the spot welds then drill them out and chisel the panel off.

if your talking about the lower part (i think its called the scuttle panel and the chevy its called the 'header') where the scuttle joins the firewall, you may be better off using your other shell.

    got any pics?

yeah thats a pretty common area to rust out. the water is supposed to drain out there and run down the A pillar but when people dont pay attention it fills up with leaves, rots through the sealer and then rusts.

i think your best off starting with a die grinder with a wire wheel on it and really clean that area up to see what you are in for. it may be a case of just cutting away some cancer and leaving it, cos' replacing that area means having to unpick two other panels to get to it, which isnt fun.

i was very lucky with mine, very minor surface rust, a little flaking. i just ground away at the rusted areas, went over it a few times with rust converter and stoneguarded the whole channel. from the pics i think you may also be lucky and find its mostly just drit and surface rust.
