Flushing my cooling system

my vb commodore is over heating and ive found the problem to be that the cooling system is full with rust and sluge, how do i clean it ?

Where abouts is the rust and sludge?
In the radiator? if so remove the radiator and flush with water from both directions, possibly a hot causic solution in it may help removing some of it.


Inside the engine, I would suggest you remove your thermostat and replace it, remove and check your water pump, I have seen waterpump fins rusted off on poorly maintained cars before.
Else with the water pump & thermostat our blast water into the engine through the water exit and water entry points untill clean water only comes out.
