Best way to do it is buy a disc brake diff so u got all the parts, even if it's just a stocko VN diff, everything should fit, whether it's a 8 bolt, 10 bolt or borgy, don't think it matters as they all seem to use the same rear brake setup. Buy 2 wheel bearing kits to suit DISC brakes, which will include the different oil seal. Get the new seal and bearings put on ur drum brake axles. Then just swap everything from the disc brake diff onto the drum diff.
As for cost....a VN diff ya could prolly get for under $100. Bearing kits are about $20-$30 each. Maybe allow $50 to pay a workshop to fit the new bearings (much easier as the old collar needs to be cut and smashed off, new one needs to be pressed on)....and that's about it unless ya buy new pads, rotors and hand brake shoes. Oh ya also need a disc brake handbrake cable to suit ur car. There's new ones on ebay to suit VB-VK for about $120 I rekon.....but I also found a second hand cable for $20 so just went with that lol.

Axels are the same you must change the wheel bearings and seals on them though, as danny8 said get a complete diff, you will need the backing plates, different handbrake cable. Upgrade to a 1" master cyl whilst yourt at it
cheers

I used all the backing plate/caliper/disc bits from a vn as they bolt up...only drama is the handbrake cable which I had to buy. Got 2 rear timken wheel bearing kits from supercrap ...took the old axles out and cut old collar and bearing off and took old drum oil seal off and replaced with disc brake seal (put on the right way round )and pressed new bearing back on and then new collar back on.
