Vh 308 mechanical fuel pump

Does any one know if the vh 308 mechanical fuel pump has to have a spacer between the pump and block thanks

I always used to think it did, then my mechanic replaced the fuel pump while I was having some other work done (pump shat itself while in the shop...) and he didn't use the spacer - has been running fine and that was about 2000 km's ago. I still wonder about that spacer block though................

I never used one on my previous 308 VH, but I did fit a new pump when I built the engine - maybe the later pumps didn't need a spacer ?

I've never seen or used a spacer on there.

The spacer blocks usually come with the new pump - that and two gaskets to go either side. In my previous VH's I have always fitted them only because the one I was taking off had one and the new one came with one.
