I have added a VK 6cyl Berlina tacho to my Executive dash cluster. Have changed the circuit board that sits under the gauges to the berlina one. Mine was an EST but now runs a MSD6AL that has a tacho output. can anyone tell me what wire from the engine loom plug that sits on the engine side of the firewall is the tacho out put. The tacho is not working at the moment. I know early holdens had a brown or black wire that was in the loom but just taped up in the non tacho models does the VK have the same, if so what colour wire or where on the plug does it go into. Thanks
on the V8 there is a thick pink wire and a thin black wire both in their own loom which connect to the coil. they run to a plug on the drivers side of the firewall (from memory) near the brake booster, the plug also has the brake warning and temp warning going off in a different direction.
if you join the yellow wire off the MSD and the black wire that should work. but as its a 6 and was est, i cant say for sure.
Has anyone got a wire diagram for the Berlina? I think most or all of the 6cyl Berlina were EFI so had the Bosch electronic distributor. I have the VK manual but there is no mention of the tacho and only a small write on the Calais electronic dash with no details. I think the electronic dash also had the tacho under the speedo so If anyone has the wiring diagram they could post that would be real helpful as well.

Where on the plug does the small black wire go? because that is possibly what I need to know.thin black wire both in their own loom which connect to the coil. they run to a plug on the drivers side of the firewall
I have it working now although I dont think it is acurate as at idle it shows 0rpm and goes up with revs but seems a little slow compared to what engine is doing. I noticed I had a pin 9 on the berlina dash were it plugs into the loom that was missing on my original one. The plug that comes from the loom had a brown wire coming off it but when I tested to see where this wire came came out on the main plug in the engine bay I couldnt find it. I ran a new wire from the engine bay to this brown wire at pin 9 and first hooked it up to the negative side of the coil that didnt work so I plugged it in to the tach out put lug on the MSD and it worked as stated above. Hopefully this will help anyone doing the same thing. If I find why it is running slow I will add to the post once I fix it.
yeah totally! my bad again. im sorry, it was a thick pink and a thin BROWN wire... sorry. it has been a while since i played with it last. so did they keep the colours for the est dizzys?
also, you need to make 100% sure that you have the trigger unit connected to the correct colours on the MSD, i.e. purple and green need to be connected the correct way, or the msd wll be running retarded and may cause all sorts of weird problems (maybe the tacho reading 0 rpm, but i am totally guessing, no basis of fact)
