Efi 202 with trimatic.. Engine runs a dream! Took it for a drive to see if anything would fuc up. Promlem is that when in drive it is almost like the clutch is slipping! When stationary it goes into nutural they when you go to take off it sticks in nutural for a few seconds then jumps into drive. Once ya cruising it's ok till ya get to a steady rev range n I thought it might have been the engine but cos it jerks and almost like it drops a cylinder but I think it's the box slipping between nutural and drive. What would make it do this? Cheers guys and how ya been?
Do what I did, chuck an aussie 4 speed in it, problem solved :P
How's the fluid level?

Fluid level is fine and it's all new oil cos the engine was converted over to this car and yea replaced all the oils. Yea just lookin through the max ellarys manual n looks like a bugger to just swap it with my other trimatic. How hard is it to put a manual in? Putting it in wouldn be so hard but hooking up like the sleek cable, changing the interior to suit the gear selector etc?
properley filling it with fluid would be a lot easier than fitting a manual...
I did properly fill it lol well according to the dip stick! Iv checked it both hot and cold n sits where it's ment to! Lol n how's it going ari! Gonna need ya help soon! Iv got the recon v6 in a vn il be putting in another vk once I pick it up!![]()
lol, ok well do it via pm this time eh?
anyways back to the trans, have you put it through a corner where you are accelerating? if the fluid is low it should slip into neutral then pretty much thump back into gear.
Lol no I been a good boy n driving like a grandpa! Lol mainly cos the exhaust isn't quite sealed up properly n is quite loud!
Ok well il give it a run through some fast corners n see how it goes!
N why do ya wanna do it though pm?
Well what do ya know! Ari was right again! Massively slips out under acceleration in a corner! So should I just add more fluid or is it mayb got like air in it or somethin n needs to be bled out?
the dipsticks in trimatics=tits on a bull
just top it up till it stops slipping out of gear. im sure that someone is gonna tell me there is a better way and that potentially the transmission will blow up etc etc bs bsbsbs, but my way works till you find out the proper way
(p.s. danny8 answered this one 1st)
hey sorry to hijack :P
but cbf starting thread for something that doesnt even seem like a problem
when im in park it revs raher high, prob cos 202 are gay.
then when i go into reverse the car sorta thumps and drops
then nutral it revs high
then drive it thumps again
what do i do?
bit more fluid in the old tricky trimatic
Lol I don't care if it blows up! So long as it gets me around while I convert my other vk! Will be great to have a reliable car that ain't a newer car! Not too many vks around anymore! I know of two in my town! One is a p plater that just thrashes the old 202 so that won't be around for too long and the other is quite nice! Old 308 worked n very lumpy! Nice paint job too! Anyways I'm just blabbing on again lol! Il do some research on the trimatic n if I can't find a better way il just keep topping it up till it doesn't slip!
mate how are you checking the fluid while its running in park after its hot or turned off?
Tried both! Both had the same level and checked when cold and it gets to the lil dimple all seemed good according to the manual! N iv put another litre in and it's still at same spot lol it's alot better but still needs a tiny bit more!
just keep topping up little bits till it runs normally. another thing to note is that commodore dipsticks are a different length to every other trimatic. im pretty sure i have the wrong dipstick in mine cos it reads waaaay over full when hot. like: twice whats marked on the dipstick. maybe thats also the case with yours.
If ya overfill it, it will just leak out of the overflow valve thing...so don't worry bout putting to much in. Obviously ya don't want it so full that ya dipstick tube fills up tho lol.

Lol yea I think she is running much better now! No slipping and it actually pulls alot better too! I just thought it was sluggish cos I been driving the vn but now iv put new plugs leads etc it's quite responsivevn is in the shed ready to be stripped for the conversion!
