Hey guys this is my first post on here
I couldn't find this exact question anywhere else so here goes
I'm wanting as much info on weather any brand of stage 3 shift kit can be put in a stock VK auto and how to do it??
Thanks
I don't know if anything has changed but it didn't use to be possible to get off the shelf kits for Trimatics. The same basic stuff is still applicable though and any decent trans rebuilder will be able to sort it for you. Stage 1/2/3/whatever doesn't mean anything except to a certain brand/supplier though, so you will need to be more specific on your requirements.
Yes by stage three I mean full manual, so is it possible?
absolutely. although there is no such thing as "a kit" as far as im aware of. a mate of mine build a couple of 6 cylinder full manual trimatics which were on a couple of TOUGH EH's but he had to source all the parts out individually. unless you know what you are doing, then take it to a transmission center.
unless it a strip car why would you want it?(not a smart ass question)
Im with Glenn dont do it you forget and try take off in top.
Well I dnt know to much bout macheniques but I jst wanna make my auto go way harder any ideas?
if you can find a decent auto guy he can open up the valve body to make it shift a bit firmer and put some decent clutches in it. is it a trimatic or turbo?
Phil Soderstrom makes the parts required to beef up a trimatic.... they can be a good trans for anything up to 450hp with the right mods, after that you gotta start spending serious money and get various parts hardened / heat treated ect.
Tradematics in Geelong built mine years ago and its withstood years of punishment.
you'd be looking at a full manual valvebody, extra clutchpacks in top gear, chrome moly servo piston, boosting the oil pressure in the trans and running an external trans cooler and bypassing the one in the radiator and running a decent converter if the engine has a cam.
meh, my shift kit does fine for changes, guaranteed it breaks out 2nd and 3rd at high rpm, and if its wet... well you just dont drive hard when its wet. i find it difficult to believe a manual kit would be any better, especially if you upgrade your clutches when you do a normal kit.
but yeah, each to their own, dunno why you wouldnt just fit a manual box...
