Question VH 253 conversion.... is there anything to it?

    Hey guys.
So i have a 82 VH wago with a Blue 202. currently running duel fuel and has an aftermarket powersteering kit on it.

ive recently aquired a 253 with a 4 slotter man, starter motor, alternator, engine mounts, dizzy, holden sump and pick up, strongberg carb, Lukey extractors, mild cam. Plus a few other bits an peices.

I was just wondering if there is anything i need to know about before i make this conversion.... im doing it myself im pre sure it shoud be straight forward... the wago is a SL not an SLX. cheers

You will need a V8 P/S bracket and even then the pump may not bolt to it so maybe a pump too, then your hoses may not reach if they are different length.
Also you need accelerator cable, radiator and hoses and clutch/brake pedal plus clutch cable.

LPG should not be to hard to modify the base to fit if the hoses are long enough but it maybe a bit lean if your tune is spot on at the moment.

ahh righto... ye i was told im gonna have to get brackets for the P/S and something else. and im ditching the gas all together... im an apprentice mechanic and ive seen first hand the damage gas does. im also gonna put a better pump for the P/S and im buying a new radiator, also was gonna ditch the fan bolted to the motor for a set of thermo's. and maybe fit electronic ignition.

    Mmmmmm do I?

You may also need to extend/replace some of the wiring as some will not reach on the motor loom, gear box reverse switch should reach and also delete the inhibitor on the stick for the auto.

I did a V8 manual swap into my previous 6cyl VH auto. It's not very difficult

if you can, go to the wrecker and pick up an engine harness off a VH V8.
It just unplugs from the firewall, and will plug straight in where your 6cyl harness plugs.
Makes the wiring a lot tidier and easier.

Also if your wagon is an auto, then you'll need to get yourself a manual pedal box, preferrably from a V8 manual car (6cyl & V8 clutch pedal & box differ slightly)

Gday At this moment I'm doing the same thing, just to make sure that your brakes and suspension can handle the V8 mate, you might want to up grade your diff too.Tail shaft frt half has to be 100mm longer than 6's. 6's are to short. I hope this help you mate, Cheers Jason

    Meh do the brakes anyway.
Those old brakes that were on everything from VB to VS suck major balls.

G'day, just go out and buy yourself a v8 tailshaft. It's easy than put spacers mate. Get yourself a warmer camshaft, like .486" lift from crow cams, and set of anti pump ups lifters too. Cheers Jason
