Hey guys need some info i have a 10bolt salsibury diff in my VB . Its a single spinner but i want 2 wheels spinnin!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been told by many shops up here that the spool wont fit into the open centre they said you need LSD centre to fit a spool.
IS THIS CORRECT?????????????? Should i just weld it up! and find somethin better to use!!!!!!!
thats incorrect they're just trying to jip you man they are too totally different things 1. a lsd diff is on full lock most of the time when driving straight or turning corners 2. a spool diff is semi lock when driving straight the diff is fully lock but when turning corners it fully unlock meaning one wheel will spin faster than the other which is why the car skips when turning
spool wheels allways locked lsd only locked when one spins until they wear out.cant fit a spool into and lsd centre need single spinner diff
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
First guy completely missed the question.
They have it backwards (or you comprehended it backwards)
You cant spool an LSD, you can only put a spool into an open wheeler diff.

Im not to sure what is right i dont want to get rid of the 10bolt i just want it to spin 2 wheels anyone know who to speak too?????????? The shops up here in cairns say it cant be done then of course they try to sell you some other fandangle part or complete diff!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP???????????
Spool locks both wheels, Stealthy is on the money. Spool an open centre.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
weld the sucker bud !! just dont weld the axles into the gears cos youll prolly need to replace a few axles that isguna do the same myself soon have had welded diffs before and never had any dramas yet "touch wood"
ahaha. priceless.
ok, car basics 1.01: when you turn an axle with 2 wheels on it, one wheel will be rotating and one wheel will be staying stationary. if your diff is locked (mini spool/full spool) the wheel that is remaining stationary will continue to rotate, even though it is not covering any distance on the road which will cause it to "skip" and chew out your tyres. LSD (limited SLIP differential) allows the wheel that is styaing stationary to SLIP so that it doesnt try and rotate when it is meant to be stationary. it will only lock after the driving wheel has reached a certain rpm.
the difference between spools (as far as i was aware) was that LSD needed a mini spool and open needed full spool, but i could have those two the wrong way round.
either way is pants. go and get an LSD.
You're wrong! Mini spool and full spool o the exact same thing, one just uses less parts (and is therefore stronger, but i'm yet to hear of anyone who's broken any type of spool)
Probably best you stick to what you know since the rest of your reply is pretty off the mark aswell......
OP, do what YOU want to do, not what someone on an internet forum says (and especially not someone who hasn't even used one of the options your thinking of......)

Try and avoid welding if possible

anyone looked at a LOCKA diff centre similar to a detroit locka but app fit in a slalsbury !!???! !
back to the original question....i think they're correct with what they're saying to you.....pretty sure when it comes down to salisbury diffs, in order to put a mini spool in, the carrier must be of an LSD as the spool will not fit in the hemisphere of an open diff, the only way to acheive "solid" rotaing assembly between the two axles in an open centre is to weld a centre peice in....
if i were you, i'd just be getting a VL turbo diff and replacing the centre with a mini spool or full spool as the axles in those are pretty good, i wouldn't bother with a salisbury....or....for around $1000-$1500 you could custom your diff with a full spool, billet axles and some new gearing......

my friend broke a spool ripped the splines out of it and snapped 3 wheel studs in the process
