100 degrees? i dunno, what thermostat you got?

mine sits at 1/4 temp in winter, takes about 5 mins of driving to get there. in summer it goes ALLLLLL the way up. after i go on the freeway on a 30+ degree day, may as well park up and kick back while she cools down.

84/85 temp gauges are different in that they have a different face, my 84 V8 sits on 1/4 most of the time and maybe half on a really hot day. My 85 6cyl ( which is my daily so i know it better) has got the gauge which has the blue zone then two little lines then a big middle bit then two lines and then Red. Its sits just above the blue in winter until you turn the heater on then it runs a little warmer, about the first line. On a hot day it sits between the first and second line, creeps up to the second line or a bit above in traffic or with the A/C on. Then highway driving in summer its sits a little above the second line with A/C on, without it on it sits on the second line or below. I had heaps of problems with it until i bought a new radiator, i took me forever to replace it as i was sure it was okay, it was just old and a little clogged inside and just couldnt cope in the summer. I bought a heavy duty OEM one and it works beautifully.

I have always set a good average temp at around the high 80s low 90s in degrees Celcius but as VK SL 202 said it will vary and it depends on your car, I have had 3 VKs and all 3 read differently on the original guage, so you are right in using a more accurate guage. I have always used a digital probe to work out base temps for teh guage then followed the scale on the guage.
It depends on where your driving and whats been done to the engine 40degree summer day stuck in bumper to bumper traffic you will expect higher temps maybe around 100deg where as cold winter days on open road depnding on the thermostat in the car 86-91degrees.

    cheers
    Scott
