    Default clunky diff??

    hey,
finally got the old VK running sweet (almost)

it is a 202 black with auto. When driving sedately it appears to be all good and no problems. Auto shifts well etc and engine is great (Holley and exhaust). But if I load it up and back off quickly I get a clunk sound from diff area. There are no noises or whines at any other time, but if on and off throttle quick it clunks out back. A mate suggested old commos get this diff slap a bit and may need new diff bearings??? etc. It will spin wheels etc if give it some around corners and no noises other than this one.

    does this sound right?

I checked the tail shaft and seems to have no play in unis at all.

    thanks

    jas

In the middle of ya tailshaft where it mounts to the body there's a rubber around it going from the tailshaft, to the bracket around it, normally when they age they crack and split, and ya tailshaft can slop around, and yeah ya normally only notice it when there's a change in speed, like if ur accelerating, then off the pedal and ya might hear it. Or if ya reverse out of a park, or even when ur taking off. I think they cost about $40-$50.

Here's a link to one on ebay.

    Here's a pic of a tailshaft.
Commodore 6 cyl tail shaft (eBay item 250716186069 end time 03-Nov-10 22:15:25 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

The rubber is inside of the round bit which goes around the middle of the shaft which bolts to the body.
