Hey VB Owners,
I have an original owners guide for my VB as well as a Gregorys workshop guide from 1980. Both are relevant to V8 models only, both the 253 and 308 versions, and both automatic and manual transmissions.
If anyone needs some specific information Im more than happy to scan pages and pm them to be able or to copy the information up.
Let me know if you need any info!
HEY RAZZA see if you can find out if the VB 308 has a pollution manifold EGR on them or pollution heads ??????
Do they only have CHARCAOL cannisters fitted to them????????
quoting from "Holden Commodore: Emission Control Systems Owner Handbook, July 1978":
page 4:
"Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System:
This system introduces controlled quantities of exhaust gases into the inlet manifold resulting in lower peak combustion temperatures in the combustion process which, in turn, reduces the formation of nitrogen oxides.....
8 Cylinde Engines with Automatic Transmission:
A thermal vacuum switch (valve) opens the vacuum line to the exhaust gas recirculation valve only after the engine coolant has reached a predetermined temperature at which time the EGR valve is subject to the engine vacuum signal from the carburettor"
it goes on to mention a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system and a Vacuum Advance Control (VAC) system, if you want information on this let me know.
then on page 6:
"Evaporative Emission Control (EEC) System:
The heart of this system is the canister in the engine compartment, which contains activated charcoal granules. When the engine is not running, fuel vapours are prevent from entering the atmosphere by the charcoal in the canister where they are absorbed. Connected to the canister via vent lines are the fuel tank and the carburretor fuel bowl (except the 5.0L V8 carburettor, where the fuel bowl is sealed).
A vacuum purge line connects the canister to the inlet manifold via the carburretor. When the engine is running the vacuum draws air into the canister, and the adsorbed fuel vapour is drawn from the charcoal, forming a mixture with the air which is burnt in the engine combustion process.
A non-vented fuel tank cap is fitted and integral in the cap is a pressure/vacuum relief valve to cater for any differences of pressure or vacuum that may arise"
theres no mention of any other emissions equipment or of any pollution heads.
in my gregorys workshop manual there are labelled photos of the EGR and EEC systems if you want i can scan them and upload them.
hope this all helps mate
VB motors are red. They have a U shaped exhaust crossover.

pfff nevermind all the information i sourced guys...
No offence, plenty know the ins and outs of these motors. Also what you post, is really breach if copyright.

yeah i know but i sourced the information directly from the owners handbook to answer his question directly, so i answered before anyone else did. thats why i said that everyone ignored my information. and yeah it is a breach of copyright to a certain extent, but i doubt holden would really care to much
Actually you guys only answered the question half right, manual optioned cars have the EGR deleted, auto optioned cars were only released with EGR.
Thats the blue spec V8s. The red ones still had em.

All red/blue/black were, it is even in service manuals.
Well, i beg to differ when you see a factory non modified VB Commodore that is manual, that has one. I've seen a few. Just never on the blue/black V8s.

Strange things happen, I have never seen a manual red motor, HJ to HZ, LX or UC Torana or VB commodore with an EGR valve, all the manifolds have had the block off plate fitted.
