Vk tail lights

hey just a question i got an 85 vk executive and havin tail light problems which i know is common with commodores but this has got me stumped....
when i turn my head lights on i get no tail lights , and when i put my brakes on my tail lights will light up and so will my indicators i will leave a list of things i have checked to narrow things down a bit incase someone out there could help me solve this issue thanks for reading my post

WHAT I HAVE CHECKED
1.There is no blown bulbs
2. checked all my fuses under the bonnet
3.checked the plug in the boot that connects your rear wiring with the rest of the wiring.
4. and have checked my light switch (but it looks a little suss)

any help , would be tops !

You may also find when you put your foot on the brake pedal the tail lights light up.
Really common really easy problem to fix you have a bad earth.

A Quick fix is find an earth in the TL harness and connect it to the body of the car.

Also make sure you have a decent earth from your battery to the engine block and to the body.

hey scott thanks for your reply ! yes my tail lights also do light up when foots on the brake, but im a little unsure of what/where the "tl harness" is ? can u give me a description please mate ?

When we are talking tail lights I shorthanded it to TL It the wiring harness for your taillights

hehe sweet thanks mate , i thought thats what the "tl" meant hehe but when u say harness ? do u mean the things the bulbs sit in etc. ? what exactly is the harness if u could be a little more specific for me would be great , sorry i have a lack of knowledge with auto electrics thanks again !

Ok a group of wires bound together with plugs on it is called a harness. Its the wires, plugs & sockets.

On a VK sedan the tail light harness runs from the Drivers side rear quarter allong behind the taillights, the globe sockets attach to the taillights.

On the car im driving at the moment I added in the earth wire to the body up near the plug at the rear quarter, I run the wire down the wheel arch to a hole there from factory.

ok thanks scott i know where ur talkin about now much appreciated ! ok at the harness theres the black wire end "a" at the harness and end "b" at the harness , is that correct ? now do u think i should snip them both off the harness and join them both togethor and earth them to the body somewhere ?
