Hey guys

well my car was running really good for awhile then it started miss-firing one day so i replaced the distributor cap, leads and spark plugs which fixed the problem, then one other morning i drove to my cousins, ran fine all the way there, soon as i drove out of the drive way it started miss-firing again

i was thinking wtf how does that happen, so i took it to a friend who use to be a mechanic and all he said was i would try and get a compression tested and also something about a gear in the timing or something not really sure but i also think the cord going from the coil to the distributor maybe be faulty so testing that tomorrow, he also said maybe the coil maybe on its way out as i have had to replace it b4, and if that is the case, is there something making it go or?

anyway any idea's appreciated, atm it sounds like a Subaru wrx or a v8 which its not meant 2 lol

cheers.

It its sounding like a wrx your missing 2 cyl :)
If its a carb 202
Could be the EST system playing up - your best be is an electronic dizzy from an EFI VK
I hope you did rotor button and dizzy cap together, once had a problem of different branded cap to button not matching up correctly
Next I would hunt for a vacumn leak
I dont think it would be a timing gear they usually just break
Same thing with the dizzy gear the thing would permanantly play up with a tooth missing etc - the fix is to fit a metal oil pump gear to the dizzy
A compression test may shed some light on overall condition but normally dropping cyl intermittantly is an electrical problem or vac leak.

Also what brand dizzy cap, leads and plugs did you buy some are just plain crap even from new

Hey scott

yeah its a carb 202, got a elec dizzy on there, going to get a new rotor button today, didn't think about that, not sure what brand the cap is, some brand that super cheap supply, leads are FML and plugs are bosch
if the rotor doesn't fix will check for a vacuum leak aswell

seems to be DerekP, well it whatever i did today seems of have done the trick, working normal now, was splattering and back-firing for a bit there, but with the valve/carby cleaner in there, new rotor button and lead going from coil to dizzy, working good now, going later to get some more vortex and put the rest of the cleaner in it, must of been a sticky valve or something

thanks for every1's advice appreciated it

Well this morning it was running rough again, dad took the rotor button out for some reason to check something and is running rough, went to my cousins, my uncle was there he had a look, i think the coil was to close to the head and was shorting out, wasn't to sure but he tighten it anyway as the bolt was loose, and it was running ok, he did the timing a lil, didn't have a timing gun, going to take one over soon, but i seen oil leaking on my extracters and stuff smoking coming out, he said it may be my rings if it is i prob have to get a new car =(
but it may not be who knows lol

well took it to the mechanic and said it was some modulator i need, engine is sucking in transmission fluid into the motor, and also my dad put e10 petrol grrr told him not to, so put 20 dollers of vortex new fuel filter, doing a oil change, and then taking it back to get a new modulator on and a gearbox service
