Hi,
As the title suggests, we are putting an LS1 into a VH.
I have a couple of questions about the fuel side of things, and air conditioning.
The car is a VH SLE. Not sure entirely what engine it was, as it was out when we bought the shell.
Fuel:
What needs to be changed/added in terms of fuel lines, fuel tank etc?
The fuel and brake lines were already off the car when we got it. There were 2 fatter lines and 2 thinner lines. I assume the 2 thinner were the brakes, and the 2 fatter were the fuel lines.
Does the LS1 use a return fuel line?
Can we use the standard tank and filler cap?
A/C:
Are the heater boxes different for cars that came with air conditioning and those that didnt? If so, how can i identify which one we have? I think it had A/C, as the previous owner appears to have welded up some firewall hoses, which i think were the the A/C.
Thanks for the help!
Unless the VH was injected, or has an injected fuel tank, you need a return line as it is injected. Best off grabbing a tank out of an injected car and throwing that it.
You do understand how much a LS1 conversion costs right?
its easy, just move the oil filter somewhere, swap the starter to the other side of the engine, space out the k frame, custom make some headers, custom make a sump and hey presto! LS1
oh and then wire it all up, run fuel return, custom make a tailshaft, somehow hook up the trans shifter, .....um, what have i forgotton?
Thanks guys.
Yes we are aware of the costs and difficulties involved. Not expecting it to be a plug and play thing.
VKCOMMO: I thought 1 of the fuel lines would be a return line?
LS1 doesn't have a return from the motor.
v8s ran a return line but too small for efi
so the 2 bigger lines are fuel and breather for the tank
and the 2 small lines are return to the tank and brakes
as snoop said ls1 dont have a return line at the motor but you need to run a regulator with a return back to the tank
you can use your tank but you will need to weld a return line on it (much easier to buy a vk - vs tank with a return line)
if its an SLE it definitely comes with air con sounds like he just cut the pipes off so you will just need to buy a new ac box and recut the holes in the wall
Yep, well on a VK it is anyways, one would think they would be pretty much the same.
From memory the hvac system is 3 components (plus duct work), blower, ac, heater (in that order i think too), on non ac cars there is just a plastic duct that goes from the blower to the heater unit.
Technically yes, legally no, I went thru this with my EFI 5L conversion. best, easiest and cheapest option is going to be to go get a VN tank, straps and filler neck. rip the old stuff out and put the VN stuff in and away you go, will take about an hr, costs about $100 and saves a lot of F$#%ing around.
