Excellent choice but we need photos. We never get tired of looking at old Commodores. What are your plans with it?
Pete
long term resto. it has cheap spray job stright over the original, really bad duco. interior is in good condition which for me was important and matching numbers(very important). am also picking up another rolling shell near complete with interior which could be quite different going by the discription of it.
could you pls expain the layout of the dual exhaust for me, cheers
two headers then twin pipes and mufflers all the way to the end, which has a resonator and twin tips.. May have H or balance pipe near middle.

thanx guys, just picked up my second car as apart of the deal. this one is doozy...................................ready
sle option 383
l16 engine
m40
gu4
2g037d for the trim
what the........................ this is minus eng and trans as it was converted to v8 but was removed
colour is to tone but different in that it is bronzy/gold over red,
what do you guys think.
Any original, unmolested 1st generation commodore is special, worth restoring, especially considering values are on the move upwards.
Excellent condition SLES are going for what EH premiers were going for 15 yrs ago. EH SPECIALS can now go for $15k, premiers perhaps $20k....
So what sort of pecking order are we looking at?
VH SLE special edition or police pack
VB VC VH SLE FACT 308 2 tone
VB VC VH SLE FACT 308 normal paint option
VB VC VH SLE FACT 253 2 tone
VB VC VH SLE FACT 253
VB VC VH SLE FACT 202
etc etc....
Would you think its something like that? Just out of interest...
Then theres the manual/auto question and the other models etc but I didnt want to over complicate it.
Only two tone options are VC and VH Commodores.
Manual option only in VBs.
My picks are
VB SL/E 307 and 308 packs, VB SL/E 310 pack, 302 pack.
VC SLE 334/335/336 pack, the factory shadow tone(two tone) VCs, fully optioned
VH SL/E 308 with th350 tranny, 382 pack and T30.
There is also the HDT ADP using SL/E as the base.

Cool.
Good points there.
So do you consider the VB and VC SL/Es to be more valuable than the VHs? Is that because they would be rarer?
Yep. The VH SL/E are more sort after but in the rare stacks, the VB and VC are up there. Not often you see the VB/VC SL/E V8s up for sale.

I agree with you SL/ENUT, In my opinion even throughout the 90s the VH SL/E were always popular amongst "P" Platers and the like. The VB & VC SL/E didn't get the love they deserved possibly resulting in a lot of them going to the wreckers due to the perception of VH's being the more popular and sought after Commodore to keep. As a result we hardly see VB's & VC's SL/E's on the road and when the occasional 310 pack or 336 pack pops its head up it really turns head's (rightfully so). This is why I think they are worth more and a better long term investment as there are less of them opposed to the VH SL/E's...
