hey Pauly, post some pictures up so we have something to work with
Some more info on the car would be handy too. Like what size engine is it ? Is it an auto or manual ? What is the condition of the engine ? Does it run well, or need attention ? Rust ? Is the suspension worn out or in reasonable condition ? Standard springs, lowered springs ? etc

When you say you want to 'do the car up', do you simply want to restore it back to good condition, or are you looking at some performance upgrades etc
There's a link to my VH in my signature, check it out if you want, might give you some ideas. You'd be surprised how many things you can do on a budget if you are willing to put in the time, effort and use the old noggin'

Nice fine mate! Got any wreckers around there, just ring around see if they have anything. Will probably want an arm and a leg for it but...

LOL, Ari's just bummed cause he's looking for exactly that, a nice body/shell of a VH (doesn't need a motor) and swap his VK's engine/running gear into it!

For $400 mate that looks like a pretty good buy. Just browse all of the local classifieds and forums becuase im sure someone would have a 202. As for the respray why not just touch it up with a spray can? Find out the original colour, go to an auto store and buy the good touch up paint and paint it by hand. Will look 1000 times better.

Just been thinking about your engine for a little bit...

If you've got a $1000 to spend on it you could easily rebuild that one for that or less if you're handy with the tools. Maybe even get some one else to do it, a local mechanic or a mate or anyone.

Do you know whats wrong with it?

Meh - 'ceptors/stockies, essentially the same thing.
Interceptors are the silver rims that come off ex cop cars - BT1's, 15" x 7"
Stockies are just the standard rims that come on everyday commies 15" x 6"

So, basically 1" wider than stockies. You can fit a little wider tyre on them. But some of the later model utes - VU/VY/VZ? have 15" x 7" standard, so it sort of stuffs up the whole thing

Are you mechanically minded? Reckon you could rebuild it? lol, or do you know any mechanics??

I'd reccomend swapping out all 6 pistons, rings/bearings, check the crank/cam/conrods - (might be able to use them again) get the head serviced with new seats installed to run on unleaded fuel, and maybe even some porting/polishing and a lumpy cam?

The heads off it yeah? (in the boot?) Can you see no.6 bore? Is it all scratched up/damaged? Got any pics?
What happened to the piston, did it drop a ring, or melt a hole in it, or snap in half etc?

that sounds like a great idea buddy but, as to knowing if the pisten dropped a ring, or melted a hole in it or snaped in half ... i think it cleanly snapped right in half to be honest. but no i dont have any other photos as of yet im going to pick up the car one tuesday as its at my brothers place.

do you think swapping all the 6 pistons would be must cheaper to do then get another engine ?

Great car you have there. My first car was a VH, and I miss it to bits. fresh formula blue paint and gun metal b45 16" simmons wheels was the recipe for a hot street car. If you have the old 202 apart, id put a mild cam and gilmor gear drives to give it a bit of character, also to mention exaust upgrade. again, great car and cheap to tinker with so congrats on your find.

As long as the bore isn't too badly chunked up it might be worth rebuilding what you've got?

The best bit about rebuilding it is that you KNOW that its going to do a atleast another 200,000kms easy.
Maybe check a few parts places, see if they have a rebuild kit for them, new pistons bearings rings etc everything you need - all in one pack.
Or even see an engine rebuilder. Ask him how much for parts and to machine the bores, and then put it together yourself? Or if you can afford it get him to do it.

If you just get some random engine, you don't know if its had a service in the last 100,000kms, if its 'just about' to let go, or any of its history. etc..

Might not be cheaper, but might not be any more expensive either...

EDIT: If you want to add some 'character' to the motor, throw in some straight cut timing gears, gives it a nice squeal! and you'll never strip the cam gear again!

No probs mate, mostly only my opinion/s anyway! I've done a bit of work to the old motor that was in my VH, rebuilt the motor, lumpy cam, Straight cut timing gears, got the head done, its been ported, polished, with big valves in it.. etc. And put it into my sisters HQ, the things a little weapon, goes fairly good for an old 6

Heaps of guys on here have helped me, so I don't mind returning the favour if I can.

    Will be watching your progress...
