Just curious how this happened. I was traveling down the highway at 110km/h, a weird vib started to happen, back over abit, then this knocking noise happened, changed lanes to pull into the servo that was 1km ahead, then this giatn BANG! and the car went really smooth till i slowed down to pull into a parking spot and then i couldnt start it up.
That happened yesterday arvo. I got the head off today and notice a piston sitting higher then usuall, so i tap it and it droped. So when i got the piston out i saw this:

Ho-ho-ho, that's totally rooted isn't it!
I'd say the most probable scenario is that you've lost oil pressure and spun a bearing.
wow bit of a mess, sorry to hear mate
crikey that would have shat me up the wall. i would have to agree with soop. all the best

Oh true, this is a carby engine. To be honest i didnt check the oil pressure when it happened as i was more concerned about have space between myself and other cars incase it did end badly.
I had only done a small trip of about 600kms over friday and saturday.
Ill have to get some more pictures when i remove the engine. It looks as if iv snapped the rod and everything, i always thought when you "spun a bearing" it would just rotate around and block the oil hole. Never knew it could get that bad.
Tomorrow arvo after work all ill have to do if remove the old engine, put 2 more gaskets on the new engine and drop it in and away i go i hope. Bought another engine today, but chucked a gasket kit through it since the engine was out.
Yeah well when theres no oil pressure there the rod slaps of the crack and does all sorts of nasty things to the bore and piston.
It is a little weird that the little end let go though, usually the piston skirt lets go and ends up in the sump, or the rod gets stuck and ends up outside the block.
Yea, i cant figure it out either, least it did lock up when i was in the car park instead of on the highway.
Yeah, that'd be fun.
I had my old 202 do that a few years ago. Though I was racing that when I shouldn't have been, so sucked in really.
ah the old seperated piston crown brings back memories from the 202 days LOL.i once had a random knock that would go away and come back randomly was the top of the piston just doing its own thing in the bore and sometimes would ride up and down nicely with the rest of the piston oither times it would impact the head LOL
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Pretty standard on a 202. They're fantastic at knocking off piston crowns.

Thats fair rooted.
Mine just punched the piston through the side of the block.
That piston stood no chance lol certainly destroyed it good
Yeah, he did say he had no oil pressure in another thread.
Which turned out to be bad wiring on my part.
Ah, fair enough then. I didn't see that update.
I'd say there may have been some truth in it though.
Yea, didnt update that it was wiring, i only found out last week sometime, chances are it was oil pressure, just had a break and looked at the bearings that were in it, id say their passed there used by date.
looks like we found your random ticking noise then...
it sucks man, but look at it this way... you have a reason to stick a 308 in now![]()
I would love a V8, but p plates. New problem i just found after i just bolted it all in, the engine is on a angle lol. Its not centre in the engine bay, the rear is towards the drivers side and the front to the passenger side if you know what i mean. I dont think the last engine looked like that. Iv tried wedging it over and no movement, got me ####ed.
transmission mount?
got the engine mounts on the correct sides of the engine?
Just been fiddeling with the transmission mount, puts it back to where it sat on the werid angle, engine mounts are on the right sides
This photo was taken pretty much dead straight at the car.
Looks pretty straight to me.
