well as the title says, i got a grandma spec VK
it started out doing work for an elderly lady on a farm near home, when i spotted the dusty VK in the shed, i asked her about with the replay " oh i don't drive it anymore " keen i asked how much she wanted for it " if you jump start it you can have it "
so now im the proud owner of a grandma spec VK![]()
i will hopefully get pics some time during the week but i already have big plans for this old girl
* 308 V8
* 350 turbo tranny
* smooth engine bay
* respray ( havn't decided what colour )
* re trim ( again don't know what colour i want )
* and a sound system, but thats not all that important
* lower it
* 18's or 19's
so basically its my little project that i plan on doing all my own work on ( with a lil help from mates )
i have a question but first, aparently its one of the last and has a fuel injected straight 6. My mates seem to think its an RB30 ... i know i should have looked at the motor but i didn't have time ... can some one help here ?

Vk's never came out with RB30's, its likely an efi black straight 6, so a 202 unless someone has changed something which i doubt mate
cant wait to see some pics good luck with the build.
that sounds madd ass
That's brilliant man, glad to see you are going for the 308!! Assume it is in great nick also?
I'm still looking for that original fully optioned VH 5.0l SL/E that grampa has left in his shed with 20,000k's on the clock to add to my collection!
Pics Pics Pics
VN BT1 Mock Up Commodore
Dynamic Locksmiths
does it have red intake manifold if so is not RB30 would be standard 202 but RB30 has all alloy intake and alloy tappet cover
VK's were never released (from the factory) with an RB30
If it's injected (and factory) then it's a EFI 202
ok it is 202 black motor thats fuel injectedi've read a bit about these lil suckers and been a apprentice mechanic i spent my first year rebuilding these things so i can work on them myself + parts are cheaper so i've decided to work the 202 and mabye go forced induction instead of going to the V8
i will hopefully get pics on here very very soon i just got to get around to cleaning it
( stock colour i shall refuse to keep due to looking like a dried up turd in the sun )![]()
any pics....
at the latest this weekend i shall have pics
good to see another VK being upgraded, same thing has just happened to me. poor nan passed away and leaving the farm shed for the funeral i noticed a vk sitting under an old tarp gandad said if i could drive it home i could have it . . . so its now parked in the front drive way. Got big plans for mine to, hope to see some pictures up soon!
If it aint Holden it aint shit!
i know i promised pics and im not going to lie, i havn't taken any due to a shit load of overtime, a new gf ( which i got more then i bargened for there, will explain later ) and trying to organise transport for a brand new dirtbike ( CRF450X ) from sydney to tamworth ( to buy the same bike here was $1300 more)
but yea i've been sitting thinking in my limited spare time what im going to do with the ol girl, original thoughts where to put a RB30 in it, then a bloke at worked scared me out of doing that with how much to get shit like that engineered costs, then i thought do up the lil 202 black motor and turbo it ... but then same problem. had people scare me out of doing that. so i was at a stage of not knowing what to do. bout a 3 weeks ago i started seeing this girl ( now gf ) shes a car nut and so is her mum, one not so sober night i mentioned i had a VK and her mum jumped up " i got a 308, and a 350 turbo tranny sitting in the shed if you want it "![]()
so its played over in my mind and i've decided to go for it and have a crack at doing a 308 up![]()
btw i won't be so lazy soon and i promise i will get them pics of the ol girl
get the 308 and you will be happy! nothing beats the sound of a good old fashioned carby v8
with a 6/71 blower ontopmaaaybe
i wish there wasnt a swear filter....
cos i would say #### YEAH!!!!
(lol)
just curious, whould i need an engineers certificate to drop a 308 in with the 350 turbo tranny ?
and if so how much would that set me back
OMG THAT IS THE COLOUR i think, if not a lil bit lighter
#### yea this is sounding like a winning combo ....i've always wanted an old school blowen V8 commdore and this is heading in the right direction. im also curious about doing the build myself with as little outside help as possible, i know i will get the balancing done by a pro and also the tuning but everything else i want to do myself, so this car has true meaning cause i've loved the VK since day dot. i was thinking 358 stroker, and all the supporting mods to do that and also go forced induction, and how hard is it to mount a supercharger ? will i need to drill new holes in the heads or ? help me out here.
ok to start with vkjonnos colour is beautiful, and if you redo it well it will take your breath away in the sun.
secondly, the charger will depend on how much you spend. you can get direct bolt on kits to go on the heads which include the intake manifold. your best bet is to go VN heads cos the kits are cheaper and itll deliver bags more power than our old casties.
355 will need minimal outsourced work. a good kit will come pre-balanced all you have to do is relieve the bores a little bit to allow for the extra conrod throw. BUT you really should be going through the paces to put a supercharger on a 355. i.e. get the block completely crack tested, sonic test the bores, line bored the crank journels, look at going 4 bolt mains, or at least a stud girdle, and get the bores taken out one stage i.e. if they are 20 thou over, go 30 thou and get it honed. anything up around 60 thou is a throw away block. dont bother with it. itll die with that kinda horsepower.
ill leave the rest for later![]()
