    Default Another VK V6

Hi all just want some input on my VK project. Its going to be a bit of a budjet build with everything I have lying around my workshop. I am going to put in a VT ecotec which i pulled out of another car for an L67 conversion. I also have a few other various commodores wrecked out the back. I'm going to use a VS k frame and front suspension. i know it is a wider track than original but that doesn't bother me as i want to put in the VS diff aswell. I also have 2 turbos, both off 3 litre Nissan Patrols. Not sure if I should use both or just the 1. I would love twins and copuld always change the turbos down the track. Im looking at converting the complete interior to VR. the only thing i need is a T5 which i am trying to get a wrecked VP wagon. Anyway just wondering what peoples thoughts are and if there is any other ideas you have. Cheers

I wouldnt run the vs suspension or diff, i have a vl diff that scrubs but then again i run wider then 195 rubber.
Interior is going to be alot of work but i think it would look great.

Try and get a vs intake manifold or you will have to drill and tap the vt one so you can run 2 temp senders one for pcm and one for gauge.

Im goign to get the gaurds pumpe dout a bit to stop the tyres scrubbing. My brother has a panel shop right next door to me so that wont be to much of an issue. I was thinking of running a VP loom but because i want the dash maybe I can swap the whole dash loom and everything.

thats a massive task to use the vr/vs loom but it would be the best option to get everything working as it should.

vn vp vr vs kframe and vk lower control arms and vn struts is what you want really.

I was thinking of swapping the cap on top of the spring to the VK one. Im not sure if the springs are the same diameter but I will check first. That way it will all bolt straight up (hopefully). Also If i use the VS bearing and brake assy' it will be easy to bolt on later model brakes.

I would be interested to see how you are going to fit up the VS struts. I was just discussing this with my son last night. This would certainly make the VT 2 spot caliper upgrade simpler. I would probable use the VK lower control arms and keep the track the same. I run a VN diff with 225 rubber, SL springs and don't have any major tyre scrubbing issues. I would think that the VS loom and ECU would be a better option. I understand that the VP has block injection and the VS has sequential injection. Sounds like a good project.

VT upgrade is almost as easy on a VB-VP you just have to buy the expensive hubs.

I think you will find that the VS strut wheel bearings are a lot bigger and are a sealed unit. Probably buy six sets of VS struts 2nd hand compared to what the price they want for the hub adaptors.

i bought the hub adapters to go with my struts as my shocks were all new and its far easier to change the hubs then struts and then swap over shocks, and with VR-VS you had to buy the spacer ring which i didnt like to make the rotors sit properly, you also dont play around with your front track, afaik using VS hubs widens the track a little which makes tyres scrub quicker. Plus your wheels bearings stay all the same so i can go in to repco or wherever and just ask for VK bearings/ seals ect which helps save confusion. Hubs were 300 bucks when i got them.

Like I said I want to build it reasonably cheap and with what I have lying around so I'm going to give the VS suspension a go. If it works well I will let you know if not I will have a bit of swapping to do. Ive just started cutting out my turbo manifolds but cant do much else until I get the motor in the car and can figure out where I want them to go. I have most of the pipework and the flanges so they are ready to weld together when the motor is in. Found myself a T5 yesterday for $50 if i remove it myself. Going to take the pedal box and everything while Im at it. Does anyone know if a VN pedal box will fit in a VK?

I am sure that the VN pedal box will fit. I am almost certain I have one in my VB.

Awesome! Hopefully it will. Now I almost have everything to start. All I need now is time to do it. Any ideas on colours and rims? My brother is a spray painter/panel beater by trade and works next door to me so any colour is going to be do-able. I want to get the colour and body kit right the first time so i dont have to go painting it again. Also thinking a group 3 kit. Any other sugjestions. I dont want it over the top but do want it looking good. Its going to have to mach the VR dash and interior.

in my opinion the older commodores look good in simple colours, none of this changing colour stuff or sparkles. id say a nice blue, black or red would look good

The VH Group 3 only came in Marenallo Red and Calais White. Either one would look good.

I know black is hard to get looking really good but i love the look of a black car. Might have to have a look around and find some pics and see what I like before deciding. Don't really want to ahve to re spray it because I don't like the colour.

Black looks nice but its just impossible to keep clean, one drive and they just seem to be dirty.

I know but they just look so good when they are clean. I pulled the k-frame out of the vs yesterday so I nearly have all the bits I need. Still working on getting the dash and interior out. Next week I am going to start pulling the VK apart. Hopefully by the week after I have the motor sitting in and can start building the turbo manifolds.

To easy. That would be good. I'm hoping to pull all the VS stuff out this week. Might get the apprentice to give me a hand seeing as we have a bit of spare time.

I got the fuel tank out of the vs the other day. Now I just have to start working on getting all the gear out of the vk. I think I will spray the engine bay before I put the motor in otherwise it will never get done. What about yourself? Hey I have a vs cai and I was hoping to use it. Just wondering if it will fit after I move the battery to the drivers side.
