Hello all, In looking at buying a VB 253 I've owned a VC 308 in my past life (before kids) and it was a great car with plenty on muscle. I test drove the VB yesterday its a 4 speed manual and it didn't seem right,(very bogged down taking off in first & should there be oil pressure when ideling) I did just hop out of my VE SS straight into the VB. Below are the mods this car has and I was wondering if you could comment on the power it should be making and how hard can you rev this things, thanks in advance.
bored out 40thou, stage 4 crane cam, acl flat top pistons, new lifters, pushrods, rockers and bridges, new fuel pump and oil pump, all gaskets are ACL, new water pump, edelbrock manifold, 465 Holley, ceramic coated exstractors, custom 2 1/2 in exhaust with s/steel mufflers, hei electronic dizzy,8mm high tension leads, race timing gear, ACL bearings, speco gauges, all interior has been fully reupholstered, new headlights and tail lights, all new door glass, new carpet, all new jvc stero, custom made bumpers, Brock front spoiler and grill, all new pedders bushes and rubbers, rebuilt 10 bolt lsd diff, new disc rotors and new larger vl front rotors and callipers with new pads all round, recon m21 gearbox, new strutts and shocks, new mastercyclinder, new clutch cable master cylinder and slave, new uni joints, new ball joints, heavy duty clutch plate and pressure plate, all new door seals and all glass seals and rubber . Complete new electronic ignition, Full anti rust treatment
just do it.
The cam or the diff ratio could be why it's bogging down. A stage 4 cam in a 253? Why?
But apart from that, as above, NIKE.
of course its gunna feel like it bogged down, its a 253 lol, and you jumped out of your 6ltr... i have the same prob when i bought a vb sle 253 for a daily work hack... i sold it because it was a gutless POS and used more fuel than the caprice lol
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
There are asking $11,500.00 I will not pay over $9,500.00, the paint body work and interior are all good. The car was at temp, guys be honest if I want a good weekend car should I go straight for the 308 or can the 253's go ok?
Mate it's really up to you and you only. Do you like it, does it feel good to drive, does it have the sort of power you are after etc? It's a personal choice IMO. Many on here will say 308 and 308 only (including myself) but at the end of the day if you really like it and will be happy driving it and you can get it for the price you want to pay, then go for it.
Any pics, or a link to the add perhaps?
I'm not concerned either way I like the car it's only a $10,000.00 spend and I bit of fun, I just wanted an opinion on the small defects I found.

edit* oh i see. its custom.
fair enough. anyway. holden V8 have little to no oil pressure at idle, its just something you get used to. and as mentioned, it prolly bogs down cos' of the diff gears. i would imagine that engine would probably only make power at 5-7k rpm anyway. down low it'd be ball-less.
Vk Berlina - $1,000 - $2,200 redbook 1966 Chevrolet Impala - $9,200 - $13,300 and I guess you would sell me both for an average total of $11,000.00 - I will write you a cheque today - People spend a ####ing fortune on cars and all the money spent is normally internal - I asked a couple of simple questions and got good simple anwsers of most - This is the last time I use this website.
Ari666 has a point. Just because you spend $10k on a car doesn’t necessarily make it worth the same or more. I doubt the seller will get anywhere near what he is asking for it - looks pretty tidy tho. (Not my taste however).
Odd that you would spend that much time and money on a 253..........
Harden up! That's to much for that car, old school Holden V8's don't have very good oil pressure at idle as mentioned, it's slow because it's old tech compared to your new SS, it's not my personnel taste but maybe yours, And from the looks of your name you've already brought it or going to no matter what anyone here says!

Well oil pressure i believe everyone here is wrong the motor has had work and should see oil pressure at idle, reason it bogs down would be due to diff ratio and the fact its a 253 ( not a motor known for alot of torque) with a big cam.
Personally i think you can buy better for the money like this
