yeah and the manual diff and the clutch cable going into the bonnet all it needs is the box and drive shaft as far as im aware?
or is there other shit that would have been changed to make it an auto besides the interior bits

well other than the tunnel cover, you will need a flywheel (autos have a pressure plate), clutch, thrust bearing and release arm, box, inspection cover and mounts.

no idea if the tail shafts are the same

mechanic would probably charge you for 10hrs or so remove and refit. then he will replace the clutch thrust bearing etc with new parts, machine the flywheel etc probably gonna cost you around $1k. i doubt you will find someone to do it though cos' that car looks pretty rough and mechanics dont really like sending out a car that isnt rwc.

for example, if the brakes are shot, a lot of guys will make you fix them. unless you pay for truck in-out. i dont blame them either.

oh ok lol, well how good are you with cars? if u wanna do it urself youd proboly wanna have acess to a engine crain then attach the box to the engine and put it in as one peice
then if the pedals and cables are still their hook the clutch pedal up silde the tail shaft into the back of the box and then do up the uni joints at hte other end with the ubolts

ill look for some threads for u

Indeed I do so basically ur saying it will be easier to pull the engine and box out as one then replace the gear box with the manual attach relevant cables and what not slide box and motor back in and connect the rest of the shit all the wiring and what not with the ol m20s and 202s is rather straight forward isnt it

my apologies, thought you were saying i wasnt being constructive.

if you got a couple of lads, doing the box from underneath isnt all that bad. its just a real arse of a position to lift and its tough getting the car high enough to get the box in while resting on a jack. so you basically have to drag the box on its sump into position (ouch) and then lift it while laying on your back (ouch) and the worst part is you need to lift it without knocking the clutch pressure plate out of alignment and hole it for a minute while someone else does up bolts (double ouch) a lot of swearing, i can tell you... i once put my auto on a creeper and rolled it under, but it made it harder to lift into position.

jonnos way is a bit easier, but then you got all the headaches involved wih removing/refitiing. to be honest, if you havnt got a hoist i would probably be more likely to lift the whole engine too. the clutch and box bolt up so much nicer when they are on a stand, and lifting a 6 isnt that bad.

It should be a fairly easy task to complete, as there is already everything there for you, I did an auto to manual conversion by myself in a VK
it was a pain doing the clutch pedals and cables etc etc, but yeah don't forget the bush that goes into the rear of the crankshaft, ( or make sure there isn't already one in there and pushed all the way in, as I think you can install an auto with this bush still in place, if the bush is in there but pushed all the way back you will have to move it flush with the end of the crank where the flywheel bolts on, if you need to do this fill the hole with grease and find a bolt or something that fits inside the bush fairly snug and hit it with a hammer this will move the bush out.)
if you have plenty of room under the car, you can do the bolts on top of the gearbox from under the car, I used like 4 or 5 long socket extensions, was much easier than reaching in from the engine bay.
my biggest mistake was putting an aussie 4 speed in first, lasted about 8 months, till I dropped all gears but 1st and reverse. got hold of an M21 from a v8 and put that in just had to change the bell housing.

It probably doesnt have a vaccum line, thats why the gearbox has no third gear.

Dont forget about the wiring in the auto shifter that stops the engine starting unless in Park (if you have it changed from the conversion) just unplug the auto shifter wires and plug in a manual loom, will prolly have your reverse light wires on it as well. If the car starts in drive was prolly never changed.
