can somebody please tell me how to remove the door trim and the front and back ligh molds from a VH SLE
i was talking about the silver trim that runs around the out side of the door. Not the inside of the doors
outside of the window*
Hi Hanky420
Your message is still a little unclear about the window trims. Are you talking about the trim at the bottom of the door glass, or the narrow trims that run around the window frame surrounding the door glass?
If you mean the narrow trims running around the windows, they are a "U" shaped aluminium moulding that is clipped into place over the window frame before any of the glass is fitted. If you want to remove them, you need to strip out the lower moulding (belt moulding - next paragraph), window rubber channels, external mirrors, door trims, handles etc, windows and on the back doors, the fixed quarter glass has to be removed too.
As jonnoo said, the belt mouldings (that's what they call the chrome trims below the windows) are simply pulled upwards to remove, but there are a couple of things to watch out for.
Open the door and wind the window down fully. Just check inside the door edges front and rear to make sure there are no small self tappers screwed through the door from the inside, into clips at each end of the chrome trim. I don't think there are on VH's, but just check to make sure. The trim can be bent if it is not removed carefully. Start at the front end and gradually pull the trim upwards, working gradually along its full length. It is retained by a number of metal spring clips which snap down over the top edge of the door and they can sometimes have a really good grip. Replacement is simply done by putting the trim back in its correct location and whacking it down along its length with the palm of your hand.
The little narrow chrome strips around the taillights are just snapped on over small plastic clips. Carefully lever then off starting at one end. A small bit of masking tape placed on the panel immediately adjacent to the trim will enable you to lever the trim off without damaging the paint. Replacement is just a matter of aligning the trim back over the clips and pushing firmly into place.
that will help alot. Im sorry i was unclear
Resurecting an older thread here:
That chrome trim around the door/window frame (not the belt moulding)... did that only come out on SL/Es? Because some cars have that trim and some don't. My VC doesn't, but I like Chrome/stainless on cars so the more the better. I was thinking of just getting some stainless extrusion or 5mm wide strips of stainless or something and cutting/filing it to fit, and doublesided- taping it on the doors.
Was thinking how good a full stainless steel grille would look as well, as opposed to a black plastic one. I know that CHU88Y car has some type of chrome grille but it doesn't look right because it is not in the style of the original grille.
SL and SL/Es gained them. And Chubby's grille, all built by himself.

So was it just VC or VH?
I have an L model VC, no chrome strips around windows. Was it an option?
SLEnut, you are in Burnie right? Have you ever seen this commodore driving around?:
I think it is in Launceston somewhere. It has Neales Wheels on it, or used to years ago. Not sure if it still looks exactly the same.
VB and VC SL and SL/Es, VH SL/X and SL/E. Ls never got them, unless a Vacationer or someone paid for them.
As for that VH, seen one like that years ago, about 6 years in Launceston.
