Just got back from competing in Targa Tasmania in my VH SS Grp 3, all in all for our first attempt it went pretty well. The first 3 days we had a pretty good run but on the last touring stage back to Launceston the centre CV joint between the two tailshafts decided to die. So after trying to source parts at 8pm Friday night we had the car fixed by 9pm.
The next day we did 1.5 stages before the harmonic balancer decided to fly appart and shear off the pulley on the front of it, which in turn hit the radiator fan and alternator fan. After getting parts and fixing the car we drove to Strauhn to start the final leg on Sunday.
On the final day the car was running great again until half way through the 3rd and longest stage of Targa Tasmania the centre CV joint decided to pack it in again (it was brand new). We then had to limp the car the last 150km to Hobart so that we could at least drive across the finish line. Needless to say driving through the center of Hobart with the CV joint stuffed and making alot of noise wasnt one of our finest moments!
I have uploaded some of the incar footage to youtube and will endevour to do the rest in the coming weeks. Enjoy!

Jesus, not a cheap week.
I'd give it ago, but not for that kinda scratch lol.
you could most likely do it for alot less, the standard entry fee is about $7,500 and then from there if you dont have any support crew and stay in budget accommodation then you could probably get away with around $10k. The $25k is including all the meals and accomm of the 2 support crew, plus flights and getting the car there.
ima have to reaaaaalllly start saving then
wonder if i could write off the tax as "company promotion" hmmm, then take a mustang down
*highly unlikely*
If you have your company logos on the car then everything associated with it I have been told can be written off to tax, as far as the car goes!
Wow....love your work
I am extremly impressed and extremly jealous!
Last time i drove an SS in that fashion it cost me about $15000.....but lets just they wern't entry fees![]()
love the footage, sound and video quality is excellent - love the telemetry too - car sounds tough!
shame about the mechanical failures, you don't hear too often about the driveshaft CV's failing like that
hope all the bottoming out on the road wasn't as bad as it sounds!
Really good to see a VH out there. Do you have any video footage of the car from the outside ?
Looks like there was rather challenging roads, good to see you brought her home in one piece, that is an achievement in itself at Targa!
was just the exhaust flanges on the ground, the car has been lowered quite a bit!!
Here are a few vids of the car when we took it for its first test run:
