as the title suggests, what sort of HP you guys reckon is needed to do a full street trim, untubbed 10 sec pass? on slicks.
i'm thinking a good 600hp at the engine would be close to the mark. but wanting the car to be streetable (to an extent) so big cubes will be the go. no nitrous either. only naturally aspirated.
cheers.
There are a couple of calculators online that work out the vehicle weight to your approximate 1/4 mile pass. These are pretty generic, and dont take anywhere near enough factors into account. But for a 1400kg car, which includes the driver (Kerb weight on say a VH is 1320ish) it brought back a figure of 650hp for 1400 kg would net a 10.93sec pass.
But that's purely hypothetical, but sort of comes into line with what you were thinking. Make it 700 at the engine to be safe![]()

was at calder park last night checking out whats there but obviously couldnt get a proper look at what the cars were running engine wise. there was a brown VH there that was in the 11s, all underbonnet so a real sleeper.
cammed ls1 engine conversion perhaps? =p
reckon you could 10 out of a set of slicks? how wide can you get under stock arches? im guessing only around 265 ish. still pretty fat, but is it fat enough?
discuss:
edit* 265? im dreaming. when you bog down on your launch that tyre is gonna grab the wheelarch something hard when it goes out sideways (crappy pan hard rod)
widest tyre ive seen on the back of a commy with stock wheel arches is 255 (without rubbing), im actually in the process of making tubs for my ute, which ive allowed clearance for 285's with 15mm clearance either side. its about as much as you can get out without messing around with the rear frame
planty of vl's run 10's even 9's untubbed. most make around 500rwhp for a good 10sec pass with terminal speeds in the 130mph. Easily done right car right engine and enough torque

yeah i figured 8.5inch would be all you can fit. but it will be doable. still havent decided on what sort of engine to go, either a N/A sbc (have heard they are a problem to fit) or just get a 355 and force some air down there. turbo would be better on the street to cruise around, and could stay fairly under bonnet.
11.1 in a hg thats alright, sedan or wagon?
lol most are still rb30's jonoo theresa few running twin cam heads all the good ones run 26 heads though personally martouks build better cars
I did mention above that plenty of untubbed vl's in 9's and 10's bracket.
BTW what car are planning on to do 10s?
Rajab did have one of the first BL's if not the first in the 9's. It had full vs leather interior and 19's with a 2 speed glideran a 9.7 if i remember correctly. One of the rajabs killed himself in it driving on the street

What car are you planning on building? If your going the chev option check out my build so far... VB commodore build up
My brother ran 11.3 in a full weight VH SL/E with a 450HP stock stroke 308. That was untubbed on a 26x8.5" slick with frontrunners.
The converter was slipping in the top end of the track, with the right converter, it should have gone a high 10.
i imagine that stock stroke 308 was a bit revvy though. not a bad time, i'm sure it would feel like it went pretty well.
hey hardware, i'll be definitely watching your thread as a chev is definitely one of the final contenders for the engine.
Theres a turbo VP on the V6 forum that ran a 10.3 with just on 400 Hp
Quarter Mile Time & Trap Speed from Horsepower Calculator
As I'm only a dick head so don't really know and the quickest car I've ever had didn't do 11 sec .
I guessed 3000 pounds as the weight of a Vp the above Calculator reckons you need 500 horses at the wheels to run 10s.
what would an ek Holden with a 202 blue a tri and a borg warner diff weigh?
think my mates EH with a 202 was around 1500kg. but that was 15 years ago, so memory may not serve too well
Don't ya need ANDRA tech inspection going into 10's?
you could get away with the first run... reckon you might get the scrutineers attention after that though![]()
A mate of mine is running 10.80's@123mph? or there abouts, in a full weight VK (no cage yet) with a n/a 355 stroker (for your reference)
From memory it made around 520hp or there abouts on the engine dyno.
It's actually quite friendly and tame to drive on the street (big converter, etc) - with the only real issues being noise and EPA/police.
