Has anyone tried these
Headlight Bulb Holden Commodore VB VC VH VK 81 82 83 | eBay
I will be doing the odd night drive down the Clyde and had forgotten how lame the lights are on the old VH.......I don't want to install any driving lights because they will look crap.
Cheers
I had a like a fuse/relay block in my old vh that i i wired into the lights and ran new power and earths from battery so you dont get a massive voltage drop through old wiring its amazing how much better the lights were.
Got it from a thread someone on here posted years ago about it see if i can dig it up
EDIT search function works really well
WOW bright VK headlights

It also helps to buy the headlight clips so the headlight sits in tight. U can get them of eBay.
thanks for that....I won't bother then
VH's are an old car now and I'd bet the headlight reflectors on most of them are badly weathered as they are only plated pressed metal and can corrode with time. Putting stronger globes and better wiring in is only part of the fix. Have a good look at the condition of your reflectors and I'll bet there's room for improvement there.
Same as my VS after not driving it for 9 months. The other night i jumped in and drove it, couldnt believe how bad they are lol. High beams make no difference at all lol. My everyday car is my Falcon company car. Thats what ive been used to.
Making sure the wiring is up to scratch - free, or maybe a few bucks in wiring and connectors etc - and worth doing first.
Then buy some nice new standard ($20?) globes, and install with brand new lights. Even if the existing lights look ok, new reflectors can only be a good thing..
$48 or add $10 and get brand new indicators to match. VH Commodore Headlights and front Indicators
New reflectors are the best value you will get in improving your lights. They weren't a bad light new, just make them new again.
Lighthouses used to be candles, or kerosene lanterns, placed in exactly the right place against a giant reflector. The reflector is the most important part of a good light. Try putting power to a H3 globe while its not in a light (dont hold it with your fingers lol) and see how far the light will shine...
The problem with my headlights is the internal reflector, the 'silvering' is coming off or corroded from moisture that was in there at some stage in the past. The rest of the light unit is fine, but you can't buy just the reflector. You have to buy the whole new light and they are made in Taiwan. I kind of have this thing where I want to keep my whole car Australian made where I can. Removing the reflector is quite difficult and it would probably cost more to re-silver it than buy the new taiwan lights as a whole!
yeh im having the same problem but instead i was thinking of getting the aftermarket headlights for my vh and putting my gen holden lenses on em evan no they fade but all headlights fade over time. Tiwan parts just dont last aslong and also i wouldnt evan think of buying tiwan made tail lights the lenses fade really bad but each to there own
i pulled my vh head lights apart and polished the reflector by hand with some chrome polish and they came up good and repainted the inside housing silver again and polished the glass with some windscreen machine polish (iirc dimondite) put it all back together and got an auto elec to upgrade the wire and put realays in and also put in some 100/130w h4's and they worked a treeat.
just spend the money on Philips 50+ or 80+ bulbs there only 50-100 for a pair saves ####ing around with the wiring.
And new headlights are only 50 bucks and will not only make the lights work better, but look better too. As for the quality of imported lights.. I wonder how many genuine parts are actually made in Australia??
If you plan on polishing reflectors, make sure you have the new lights ready to go so you don't have to make an extra trip after you destroy them....
yep easy fix for all the mucking around polishing them just go on ebay buy new ones for about 80 bucks a pair Taiwan who cares they work if your having them dim down at night when you have other electrical items going then id be looking at your alternator relays arent going to help much if your alternator is a low amp model especially if your running a amp or such.
the good thing about getting older....more toysthe bad news more headaches
