my vk seems to be running hot, i do need thermos i know, but what temp is normal opperating temp, and what would be classed as too hot for a freshened 308?
thanks
mine sits on a 1/4 when it is behaving itself.
why do you need thermos? whats wrong with your clutch fan?
mines the same as ari's. theres nothing wrong with a clutch fan. perhaps take it off and give it a real good clean so itll spin easier. i need to do mine at some stage as its pretty clogged up with 30 years worth of dirt and dust
I only got a 4 blade metal fan on ATM. Need a clutch One I know. Mine sits at bout 180F but gets up to 220F n I think that's too hot ye?
On the gauge - 1/4 to 1/2 way should be about right, a tad higher for a tight engine, assuming your gauge and sender are operating correctly. The stock clutch fan will push more air than thermos, again when operating properly. However, you would not be alone if you are having cooling issues with your 308 - god knows I've spent a lot of $$$ and time trying to keep my bastard cool.....

god! how much of a pain in the arse are they to get cool? i have done nothing but chase cooling issues with mine.
I was having big issues with mine.I tryed thremos and it made it worse.Put the 4 blade back on and a high flow thermostat with an extra bypass hole drilled in it and now it runs cool.Gets up to 85C on hills and about 95C if im idling for a long time
took it for a small drive tonight sits at bout 82-87, but soon as i get stuck at 2 sets of lights in a row, gets to 92-98 n takes for ever to get back down. got a 6 blade clutch fan n shroud goin on on sat, hopefully that works but will prob chuck a small thermo on the front with a switch just to b safe, dont wanna cook it just yet, only got the bloody thing.
the only time I've had overheating issues is when I fit thermos to my old 308 VH.
I ended up turfing the thermos and fit the old clutch fan back and it fixed the problem.
my current 304, runs no higher than a 1/3 on the gauge. Even on the hottest days, in peak hour traffic. And that's with the air conditioning condensor in place.
not sure why so many people have overheating issues ?
See how your clutch fan goes.
Loads of VB-VK information, All you need to know about EFI 5L Conversions Ultimate EFI 5L Conversion resource "
Wanted B Cast Heads PM for details
my cam mostly, and timing issues. plus the fact i refuse to give up on my thermo fansbut my temps started going up as soon as the cam went in. tried thermos to resolve the issue but they didnt help. went back to clutch for a while and it didnt make squat of difference.
Mine mostly overheats when I use the A/C - obvioulsy on the hotter days - and that is with a very large (had to cut part of the apron to fit) electric condensor fan running, or under high load such as hill climbing with a few passengers etc. I don't know, I seem to have tried verything..........
i dont seem to have any overheating issues but maybe its because mine doesnt have a/c
well i dont have an A/C, i have no heater core or any fan/vents inside all been removed, and the cam prob all add up in the heating factor but grrr doin my head in
Bit off topic, but does everyone elses VB-vk run a bit hotter when you have the heater on full? Both my VKs do, so im guessing its normal?
nah man, heater is the only thing that has saved me from death on 30 degree days.
turn heater on and the temp goes down by bout 1/4
ye putting the heater back in is not an option for me, with he wiring out of the engine bay, n the launch control n guages n kill switch all where the heater used to be.
hmmm when i first turn it on it drops but if you leave it on it runs hotter eventually. my thoughts were that coolant runs through about 30% heater core and the rest radiator so it doesnt get cooled as much compared to 100% rad.
edited cos' im a retard

man, on a 30 degree day in mine, if you get stuck in traffic you just wanna kill yourself
