    Default vh v8 factory?

    ive just brought myself a vh with a 253 in it, how do i tell if its a factory v8? i has disc brake rear end, has rev counter in the dash thought that was for a sl/e model? is there and easy way to tell? thanks

    By the tag on the firewall up the top, it will have what engine, trans and axle it had originally, EG mine is Engine: L14, trans: MC6, Axle: GU5.

    I dont remember what the code for a 253 is, someone else will know.

    I would've thought it was L32, but it could have changed I guess...

    L32 is the high comp 253 in the Torana's and up to HZ Holdens. Later only made the low comp version and used L36 for eng code

    hey guys the numbers are L36 M40 N40 hope this means its a factory v8
    also has the number 8k69rcz731345h

    N40? Never seen that on any plates in the engine bay. N40 is power steering, all V8s got them

    It is a factory 253 auto Commodore.

    thanks guys not a bad buy for $2400 got full hdt body kit and mint interior
