VK Calais Electrical problems

Im on my learners and have a vk calais, which is not registered so havn't been driving latly, but its getting alot of electrical problems, mainly with the dash. the dash is flickers and fades out to complete blackness sometimes when you turn the lights or indicators on. and when you put you foot on the brake( not moving) the dash flickers and fades, also with moving the hand brake, changing from drive - reverse, etc. and right now the wipers and indicators are not working.. Thanks,

PS under the steering wheel the casing has been removed(was cracked by last owner), and there is wires all over the place there, and he put a button in to start it from there also?..

I would say check out your earths first of all, check my site for wiring diagrams.

I would also switch it back to the ignition switch just incase the bonehead did something dodgy
