Hi all, does only the drivers side wheel turn when jacked up with the engine running in drive or are they both meant to spin?On the VK.
If its non LSD then only one wheel will spin when jacked up since there is no resistance on the drive wheel
Its called an open Diff.. If both spun then when you went around a roud-a-bout the inside wheel would it would skip and schreech as its turning the same as the outside wheel which obviously doesnt need to travel as far.. Some have an LSD (limmited slip diff) which if tightly shimmed can do the same but usually only spin together in a straight line... You can get a mini spool or loka and it pretty much does exactly that, it locks both wheels and gives 50% drive to each wheel...
(side note) LSD's are usless in 4x4's as you need both wheels on the ground for them to work otherwise it transfers all the power to the wheel with the least traction which is usually the wheel hanging in the air... This is where a loka comes in handy...
So dont panic, you can always have your diff serviced and/or get a mate to put some heat into it and weld her up![]()
Thanks guys
