Default Getrag 5 speed into a 5.0 VC Commodore. Will it fit?

    Hey guys

As the title says, i have an opportunity to buy a Getrag 5speed, clutch, bellhousing, and tailshaft for a great price.

I was wondering what sort of problems can be had fitting these boxes into a VC commodore. I already know that i will have to convert the pedal box to hydraulic.

The shift position is about 90-100m further back then the standard m21 shift position. which means i may have to cut some of the floor pan to fit.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

YOur better off with a T5.Get a Falcon EA onwards T5 and its a easy conversion.Shifter lines up to..Fairly strong box as well.I personally find them nicer than the getrag box as well

Ford T5 extension housing is shorter than the Holden one. Doesn't move the shifter as far back. I'd take a T5 over a Getrag as well.

Yeah i have a turbo pattern block. Currently fitted with an M21 4speed. I do know that T5's go in a fair bit easier then the getrag.

The reason for the question is that i have access to a Getrag at bargain price with all the bits and pieces needed, including a clutch, bellhousing, tailshaft ect.

I Will probably end up doing a T5 conversion, though im running around 400 horsepower. Not too sure weather it will handle it.

Im taking it easy on the m21 at the moment, because they are a weak box to begin with.

    Thanks

yeah I'm with the other guys, I'd be going with the T5.
The Getrag was a noisy box and had an very indirect feeling shift. Parts support for them isn't great either. No advantage over the T5 in strength either. Only reason Holden changed from the T5 to Getrag is because they had a falling out with BTR

there is an umbundance of T5's out there, and some going for a good price now too. And it's still a current box, they are just released under the Tremac brand name now.
