Default Is a 78 VB SL V8 rare?

    Hey guys.
My wife has owned a VB 4.2 SL automatic for 20 years. On the I.D plate it was built in 12/78. Its still in beautifull stock condition and she loves it deeply. recently we spoke to someone who knows a bit about old commodores and he said that only a few V8's were built in 78 and it would be one of the oldest V8 commodores in existence. This has led her to believe its a special car and she's now driving another car and the commodores mothballed in the shed on vintage rego. I am hoping someone can shed light on this vehicles importance.

VB V8s aren't that rare, however that condition is. Also, the VB was actually made forsale in November 1978.

Back 20 years ago that wasn't the case but there aren't many factory V8's left these days.

True, infact the factory V8s are rare however, like the Phase III Falcon, made 300 but 400 still exist! lol Others words, there is more V8 Vbs around than built.

Thanks for the imput guys. I'm out of town at the moment so when I get home I'll get it out and get some pictures to post. Mission control has indicated she would like it made available for a drive.
what we would like to know is if anyone knows of an original V8 that was built before this one. I have not heard of an older one but I wouldn't really know where to look.

Lol yeah well at least twice as many SLR Toranas are still on the road than Holden built too

That sort of info is very hard to get. Holden has no history of the early Commodores. I have worked on a VB SL thats a November 78 build years ago. This one is a December build 78 VB.
