hey guys i was wondering if anyone could tell me if the swap from a starfire motor to the red 202 is easy enough. the motor i was looking at getting comes with everything dizzy, exhaust manifold, carby etc so thats not a problem. but will it drop straight in with the 4 cyl mounts and gearbox? or do i need 6 cyl ones? thanks guys any comments would be much appreciated
Mate, I think you have to change everything like k frame, suspension, brakes, x member, as for putting a red motor in vh is a no no!! but i could be wrong. Here in vic putting red motor in vh is a big no! but i did it for a while....lol Cheers Walks

Why not just jump straight to the v8 :P ?
The starefire sits back a long way in behind the radiator so maybe the k frame is ok. After all it was a holden 6 with 2 cylinders cut off. Here in Qld you would have to put in at least a blue motor.Your diff ratio would also be ? 3.36 meaning it will reving out a lot doing 80kmh, unless you put a 5speed borgwarner behind it. My 202 4speed with 3.08 could do with overdrive as it revs high when doing 100kmh. Good luck.
Don't 4 cylinder commodores have 13 inch wheels.
so you'll have to upgrade the brakes and put 14 inch wheels on so may as well change the diff and put 14 inch wheels on the back.
Does New Zealand drive the dodgiest cars in the world? (most rusty at least).
If you stick a blue 202 in it:
ACL HQ racing pistons
Starfire rods w/ ARP bolts
Steel crank (red 202?)
Yella terra ally head
Triple Stroms/Webers
Tuned length extractors with big-arse long primaries.
Will yeild you *maybe 220hp and cost a small fortune.
Stick a bog-stock V6 in it, and you have pretty much the same result for bugger all money.
did you know that there was a turbo version of that starfire it was a piece of shit but just saying lol....im pretty sure you do have to change the k frame and brakes and diff etc...and of course tranny and red motor is a no no like mentioned get a blue motor for ease or the V6 option if you want a bit of a challenge...or toss it all and get a vh with a 6 then you can work that or go V8 with out to many headaches
the good thing about getting older....more toysthe bad news more headaches
Straight forward conversion. they following will will have to be swapped over. Use a 6 cylinder k frame. engine mounts are entirley different. Front brakes are smaller and run the smaller stud pattern. 6 cylinder rotors and calipers will bolt straight onto the 4 cylinder strut, there is no differnce.
Gearbox cross member will have to be changed but bolts up to factory holes. Diff ratio is 3.9 and again runs the smaller stud pattern. What i did is just throw some 6 cylinder axles in and retian the 3.9 center. Tail shaft will have to be swaped over to a 6 cylinder one as the 4 cylinders sit further back and the shaft is shorter..Thats really about all.
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
