im just wondering what the cops views of VB-VK's are at the moment. primarily interested in VIC, but all states really.
the reason i ask is cos i have done a few mods which will be very frowned apon by the constabulary, and am wondering what my chances are of keeping my baby the way she is.
when i was a boy, it was really common to see these cars on the side of the road with red and blue flashing lights going off behind them, but i have not seen or heard of it happening lately. have the force now moved on to kids in newer commos? or are they still after modified old gals?
discuss:
A canary? Is that a Vic thing..? I have never been harrassed by the coppers here in Sydney with either my current VH, which is mostly stock or my old manual VH 4.2 with an outrageously loud exhaust. But then again I am not a youngster on P plates either.....
ah sorry, a canary is a yellow sticker that they put on your windscreen that says in big letters:
DEFECTIVE VEHICLE
(im also not on my ps')
My view is that the coppers are mostly looking for young'uns in their fully hectic (newer) 4 bangers with 28 inch wheels, lowered to 1mm off the ground with sik sub woofers you can hear in the next suburb. So as long as you don't draw too much attention to yourself (get your foot of the brake ari, your speedo's showing 70kph....) you should be ok. As the old commos shift into classic status, I think the focus is moving away from them as people tend to 'look after' their classic cars.
put a set of fully sik 20" rims on it take the springs out and ride it on the rubbers and they will be after you
We have a guy on the coast in HWP whos life long mission is to rid the world of oversize rims. He spots a car pulls them over, breath tests them asks to see any engineers papers, checks the exact size of the rim & rubber then looks at the tyre placardHe particularly likes thursday friday & saturday nights
My VK was fully engineered exhaust db complied to a VK but not the VT the engine was out of it was loud but not too loud, I had the car on the road for 2 years and never got pinged for it, it was an occasional driver lucky to do 5,000km/yr. Now it just lives in the shed due to other commitments

I dont know about anyone else but I have noticed as long as you have a good attitude the cops generally dont bust your balls to much, also aslong as your off your p's they are even more leanient...
But you might get an arsehole which will screw you sideways or a defect station (has been happening alot around my area lately)... But thats a risk worth taking.
Also since the p platers dont really drive the old girls anymore, the cops would probably be alot nicer, and if you get a cop who likes cars they will generally appreciate cars that have 20+ years on them that are not buckets lol
How the cops stop any car-driver for being "too loud" is beyond me, when every second Harley Davidson riding around has had the mufflers taken out of the exhaust and can be heard in the next suburb...
Also, there is nothing better than getting pulled over and having the car fully trawled over and the cop has to concede that he/she can't get you for anything... you can still do lots of mods legally.
if they the younger drivers stopped putting 20s on the front 15 inch stockies on the back thinking they look fully sic and bouncing around on the bump stops i think all car enthusiests would be better off ffs it looks fully shithouse im not sure what image they tying for but it just aint happening. then maybe when the modded older cars go out they wont be tarred with the same brush.
My only contact with the law in our VC, which is completely stock standard was about 12 months back, got pulled into a random breath testing set-up and while waiting in the line I thought looks like they have caught a few as there were about 6 or so cars parked up at the side, blew in the bag all cool and the officer said pull over there behind those parked cars we are also doing roadworthys, gulp I thought hmm this will be interesting, well they checked tyres, lights, wipers and all the usual things, got in the car and tried the brakes, checked the handbrake and t-bar to see if it didn't start in gear and locked etc, probably a few other things I have forgotten, hopped out and said, pretty tidy old bus, handbake comes up a few too many clicks but your fine you can go. The parked up cars were ones that they had put a defect on and were tow away jobs, there was a big write up in the local paper about it, they ran another one a few months later but this time had the EPA and Imigration there as well, daughter got caught up in that one but she was ok as hers is a late model stock Mazda 3.

Harley drivers get dicked for it all the time, they just do what most people do, put the stock pipes back on and pass it then put the others back on again, alot easier to do on a harley then on a car.
My bro works for peter steven's, tells me all about the dodgy shit that owners do to there bikes and then expect them to fix em when they get dinked for it.
i rekon it all comes down to luck my mums been canary 2 times in 2 cars in the last 7 months just driven to work thats near the dandy area.

as a young bloke myself i also think that shit with having stockies on the back looks terrible if ur gonna do that either save them for a burnout comp or put the other two on the front
People get defected in SA alot lately.....

NEED 3.9 or 3.7 DIFF GEARS, PM ME IF YOU KNOW OF ANY
when you live in a small country town cops have nothing else to do they target p plates big time. when i was on my p's many many moons ago, i was driving a ht kinga worked 6's white with a different colour frt end, centerline wheels, lowered, I was fixing up as I was going. Sh*t i think a was getting at least 7 in 3mths for the stupid things, a female copper who hated males, I was in her radar all the time. So i stop driving at least for 6mths, the day i drove it bang yellow sticker. So i sold the ht and brought vk berlina v8 lowered loud exhaust, And, drove it nothing, zero not a bloody yellow sticker....

WIFE AND DOG
REWARD FOR DOG!!
Actualy got pulled over yesterday for a RBT (L Plater) haha. and they went top to bottom on a dead stock vt? :\ serched car etc..
Most they did was warn me about - sound level of stero? -Shifting auto manualy?(aggressive driving) & were pritty suss on my rubber biuld up in the rear guards and the marks left on the rear tires...
No stickker,
thought i was some bum.. driving home from work 7-5 was filty! and couldnt belive the car was in my name..
If it's clean, not too loud and your not driving like a dick then you will probably be ok. Stay away from industrial areas (such as Dandenong south for example) which often have the police/vicroads camped out pulling over everything that looks sus for a closer look.
Reaper
I have never been pulled up in the VB but I carry my engineers papers and EPA noise test in the glove box because I do expect that I will.
harleys are so much louder but who doesnt love the sound of a harley
