Hey guys,
Can anyone assist or give me advice as to fitting power steering to a 3.3 litre VH? I am looking at a SL/X which has no power steering and wish to have it fitted, does anyone know the approximate cost and would I loose much power?

You will need a p/steer rack, pump and bracket and associated hoses and lines. If you go for reconditioned it will probably set you back about $800 (best guess), less for used but they will usually need reco'ing.
As with anything that works off the crank you will loose some power, not huge amounts but some.

As above, youll lose a little power while your turning at very low speed but other then that youll never even notice it, i think the alternator bracket is different for power steer models as it also hold the power steer pump and moves the alternator up a little to accommodate for it.

I converted my Vacationer to power steering.I collected all the bits from ebay and the wreckers all second hand. My problem was that there where no holes (4 ) in the side of the head beside no 1 plug to mount the Air Con. Dont know why but vhs had the Power steering pump below the Alternator or up high next to no 1 plug.I changed the head, and moved the Air Con up high. Luckily there was a slx at the wreckers so I grabbed all the lines and brackets. you will need to change the Intermediate shaft. That is the one that connects to the rack. Works well especially with a sports steering wheel.
